Is it safe to introduce a 5-month filly to a stallion and mare?

Hello. While I have seen stallions be very gentle with newborns, if I had a choice, I would allow the mare to foal in the other pasture. Try to be there when she goes into labor & you should be able to shoo away nosey neighbors. Once the foal is on her feet, Mom will be protective enough to deal with the other mare & colt. If that is 48", it is not enough. A minimum of 5 foot fencing (6 feet from ground level is preferred) would be recommended. Some hot tape or hot wire would also be recommended to help keep them away. Watch your mare for signs of heat. They can be just as bad, or worse, than stallions when it comes to breeding. You may need to move her to a different paddock or keep her in the barn temporarily.

I recommend taking a bucket of grain or treats, and approach him very slowly and quietly. If you do not feel safe, then do not approach him. You may be able to lure him back to a pen with food without ever touching him.

Hi there. Stallions (male horses that have not been castrated) are generally considered to be more aggressive and dangerous to work with than either mares (females) or geldings (castrated males). But it really depends on the individual horse - I have met some very gentle, easy-to-handle stallions as well.

Hello. First, know that this is normal behavior. Mares especially can be aggressive to geldings & even other mares. It can take several days to up to 3 months for everyone to settle down. If possible, the horses should be separated where they can see, smell & possibly touch each other, but can flee if the situation requires it. If you can not place the horses in adjacent paddocks, they should have separate resources far enough apart so that no guarding occurs. 2 water sources & feeding far enough apart ( or confining the mare ) until all grain is consumed & for up to 20 minutes after is necessary. Once the gelding has finished & is grazing quietly, you can release the mare. If any of the horses are wearing shoes, pulling them temporarily may prevent significant injury. If the behavior does not seem to at least be calming down in another week or so, you may need to have your mare evaluated for an ovarian problem or even granulosa cell tumor. These can cause significant hormonal changes in mares resulting in almost stallion type behavior. Have patience, a week is only a short time to try to buddy up two horses. I would see if you could turn Cloud out with another gelding as there is less likely to be conflict that way. Another option would be to turn him out next to another horse even if they aren't in the same paddock.

How lovely of you to take in this stray cat and her kittens! I would keep your five week old male kitten separate from the kittens. At five weeks old, your kitten will not be vaccinated and can pass along diseases such as calicivirus and feline distemper to the kittens and their mother. Conversely, the mother could pass those along to your kitten as she likely isn't vaccinated. Fleas and intestinal worms can also be passed between them. I would take your kitten into your vet when he's six to eight weeks old to get his first vaccines, and be sure to take the mother and her kittens into the vet in the next couple of weeks to get check ups for them. You can discuss with the vet when to get the mother vaccinated and spayed so she won't have another litter of kittens, and when to start the kittens on their vaccines. Good luck, I hope this helps!
