My rabbit's poop is wet, smelly, and clumped. Is his diet the cause?

Discontinue lettuce and bananas. Either may contribute to soft or loose stool. Limit pellets and feed as much timothy hay or similar grasses as Stanley wants to eat. Rabbits will produce two types of droppings, with one being softer which they will reingest to extract nutrients. If the soft stool persists or worsens or if Stanley stops eating, have him examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating rabbits.

He may have some minor GI upset. Discontinue feeding any fruits or vegetables temporarily. Feed only timothy hay or similar grasses. Offer as much as he wants. Bunnies have two types of feces, their day feces which are round and firm, and the "night feces" which are softer and elongated/ variable shaped. If you are seeing softer feces this means either that Blackberry has diarrhea or that he is not eating his night feces (which he should). In either case he should see a vet.

The pellets appear normal. Rabbits have 2 types of stool. The ones pictured and cecotropes, or night stool which they ingest to absorb additional nutrients. The white substance is likely dried calcium from the urine. Rabbits excrete excess calcium in the urine, frequently giving it a white or cloudy appearance. This is normal and no cause for concern.

It is not unusual for rabbits to defecate several times throughout the day - they are hind gut fermenters and therefore eat almost constantly, so they produce a lot of poop! As long as the feces is not soft/liquid, frequent passing of fecal balls is normal. If you are ever concerned that Khargi is sick or acting abnormal, Khargi should be evaluated by your veterinarian! You can always bring a fecal sample with you to the vet to be evaluated for any parasites. I hope this is helpful!

As long as Blackberry is eating and drinking normally and not having diarrhea, you can continue to monitor his output. Adding additional hay to his diet may also help to make his stool a little more consistent.

Rabbits have a very sensitive GI system. Some causes for loose/wet stools: * internal parasites (worms) * colitis * dietary indiscretion (ate a food she that was new to her) * stress Those are just a few reasons. My suggestion is to start her on a probiotic and if there is no change or the condition worsens then she will need to see a vet.
