Are my hamster's teeth too long? Do they need trimming by a vet?

Your vet should be able to trim Cookie's teeth. Some hamsters need this done routinely (every 2-3 months) but you may be able to prevent it from happening again by giving him plenty of things to chew on. Hamsters incisors grow continuously which is why they need to be worn down or trimmed regularly. Your vet may also recommend starting so antibiotics since there is an open wound. Best of luck.

Your hamster is suffering from abnormal dentition, the lower incisors teeth are much too long compared to the upper ones. you need to get her to the vet to have the lower front incisors cut, the upper one that fell will regrow very soon.

Hello. The gnawing action of a rodents teeth will naturally keep them trimmed. Occasionally, due to a defect in the tooth alignment, an incisor can grow unchecked. These teeth need to be trimmed periodically. Teach you pets to allow you to examine their teeth & as long as they seem to "fit" or mesh together ( & we are only concerned about the front incisors ), they will be fine. I can't really see properly as the pictures are very blurry but it is likely to be his cheek pouch that is protruding outside, you will have to take him to the vet ASAP, the pouch will need to either been sutured back inside or removed surgically.

Yes, I would definitely take Rico into the vet as this tooth will likely need to be removed. The cost of seeing a vet for this procedure will very by area and clinics within your area, and I would call around to get a quote.
