My hamster was dropped. Does he need a vet if he seems fine now?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Male

My brother dropped my hamster while he was in a closed running wheel and my hamster stopped moving for a while. He looked like he was limping for a bit. He seems fine now but do I have to take him to the vet to have him checked just in case?

Hello, sorry to hear about Max. If he is doing well now and seems to be back to normal, he may have just been startled from the fall. If he fell from a small height then perhaps you can continue to monitor him. If he fell from anything higher and you think he may be hurt, then I would definitely have him evaluated today.

Monitor him and ensure he is able to walk on all four, ensure he is eating and drinking. Ensure he is able to defecate and make sure he is otherwise acting like his normal self. If so, the you may no need to have him evaluated.

Hope this helps and best of luck.
