Guinea pig fell from bed, seems fine. Should I still take him to vet?

My guinea pig jumped off my bed and landed on the floor. I was afraid because I thought he is hurt. But then I saw him walking and eating property. Am a bit tensed now. What should I do? I have thoroughly checked him. Everything is fine. Still am worried. Am sending you the picture of the exact height from the edge of my bed to the floor.

If he is eating and walking normally right now, I would suggest that you monitor him closely for the new few hours. Sometimes after a fall or other trauma, they don't show any evidence of injury due to them being so afraid. But, over time, that can change and you may see him limp or his appetite or attitude become abnormal. If you see any changes, I would recommend taking him into a veterinarian immediately as he may have hurt himself when he fell. Please do not give your guinea pig any human medications, as many of these are harmful for our fuzzy friends.

Many medical conditions can cause this type of weakness, from a teeth problem to a gut disease, you need to take him to the vet urgently in order to get it checked and treated otherwise he will not survive for long.

If he continues to limp you may want to consider an examination with your veterinarian. It could certainly be fractured. An x-ray would likely be needed to evaluate for a fracture. There are some safe pain medications available for guinea pigs. Hopefully he continues to improve!

I would give her some time to see how she is. She may have a bit of bruising and is just sore. If she stops eating, is very lethargic, starts limping, etc then you should get her to a vet for an exam.

I'm so sorry about Pig. Ideally he needs to see a vet as he may have a spinal cord lesion, pelvic fracture or other fracture. He may have a collapsed disc or broken vertebra. Spinal cord lesions may not always start with full paralysis. He needs to be kept fairly quiet to help allow for healing but knowing the extent of his injury will help determine if he can recover. He also may need pain medication which is only available by a prescription from the vet. After exam the vet may likely recomend radiographs to look for the lesion. The sooner a diagnosis is made and treatment started the better his chance of recovery.

Guinea pig limping after nail quick cut and a fall. Should I worry?

Accidents happen. Everyone cuts a quick on occasion and animals often seem sensitive for a short time afterwards, and some even limp slightly for a few hours. As long as Rubix continues eating and acting normally, and the limp resolves in a few hours, I wouldn't worry much about the fall. However, if the limp continues or Rubix has any other changes, please take him to his vet to have his back and legs examined.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Mellow. It would be best to have him seen by a veterinarian if you are concerned about his leg. As you mentioned, guinea pigs are good at hiding signs of pain. He may benefit from some prescription pain medication. Please do not give him any over-the-counter medication as it can be toxic. In the meantime or if there is not a veterinarian in your area that sees guinea pigs, be sure to keep him quiet. Offer him plenty of food and water, but I would not handle him for 24 hours to allow him to rest. I hope this information helps!

Hi there! I am so sorry to hear about Charles' accident. I would definitely have Charles checked out by his veterinarian. There is definitely a chance that he could have some internal injuries. He may need an exam to check his lungs, and even an Xray, just to make sure there isn't anything else abnormal going on. As you mentioned too, I'm sure Charles is a little bit shaken up from his accident. These small guinea pigs are prey animals and are normally a little bit stressed out anyway. Having an accident may have made him a little bit nervous, but his comfort level with you will return in a little bit of time. Hello, sorry to hear about Max. If he is doing well now and seems to be back to normal, he may have just been startled from the fall. If he fell from a small height then perhaps you can continue to monitor him. If he fell from anything higher and you think he may be hurt, then I would definitely have him evaluated today. Monitor him and ensure he is able to walk on all four, ensure he is eating and drinking. Ensure he is able to defecate and make sure he is otherwise acting like his normal self. If so, the you may no need to have him evaluated. Hope this helps and best of luck.
