My guinea pig has bronchitis. Is penicillin toxic? What are safe meds?

I would definitely recommend switching to a different antibiotic, after baytril fails i usually try TMS and then Zhitromax, both of them for 2-3 weeks. if this doesn't work either the last resort is Penicillin injections for 1-2 weeks.

You should only give your pigs antibiotics for a medical reason diagnosed by a vet. Then the length and frequency of dosing will be determined by the severity and type of condition. Usually it involves a daily injection for 5 days up to 2 weeks. Unfortunately I cannot legally give you specific information about prescription drugs, but your vet will be able to advise you. Hi, no it is not a normal side effect. I would discontinue the medication and ring your vet to let them know. In the meantime you can syringe feed your Guinea pig some recovery food , oxbow or supreme science in the UK. There are some antibiotics safer to give newborns, such as doxycycline, and treats many of the diseases that cause URIs in guinea pigs. Not sure what is going on the eye on the other one, but a corneal infections if a concern. It is recommended your see a veterinarian to help and prescribe medication. good luck.

Your poor piggie! Well, it's possible that he just needs to have the Baytril given for longer and not stopped as quickly. But he may also need to have additional antibiotics as well. The best medicine is to take a nasal culture at the vets and send it out to see what bacteria grows and what antibiotics is best for it. but that can be expensive. If that is not possible, I would recommend probably cobining antibiotics or changing and see if it fully resolves.
