Bunny's ear is itchy, bleeding, and has wax build-up. What to do?

I am so sorry to hear about Scholtz! I would be concered we could have a vasculitis here that disrupted blood supply to the ear resulting in eventual death of the tissue. I would recommend an examination by a veterinarian to see if the other ear might be saved and to see if there are any signs of problems elsewhere in your bunny that might require treatment and what the possible cause of the vasculitis could have been.

I would check the product instructions and follow that. I recommend that you have Oreo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This is probably a severe case of ear mites. These are a small biting parasite that can be very aggressive in rabbits. It looks like your Jr your rabbit is going to need to have this ear professionally treated by your veterinarian. This can require some sedation to clean the ear because they are usually very uncomfortable. Your vet will then probably give an injection of a medication that kills mites. This injection is usually repeated every 10-14 days until the mites have all died. You will need to take Baby to your veterinarian as soon as you can.

Hi, good for you for noticing the problem. You can flush out the bunny's ear safely by using a saline solution, like eye wash. Squirt a few drops into his ear and massage the base of it, then let him shake his head to remove debris.Them once it it moist, carefully use Q tips to remove any stuck debris. Be careful not to push any back into the ear canal. You may need to flush it a few times to get it all out. Some bunnies need to have their ears cleaned regularly. If you notice any smell, redness or pus like discharge, take him to a vet. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Those ears are very red, which indicates that something is really irritating them. Ear mites could be a cause and can be easily treated for. Allergies is another common cause, but it's more likely to be related to the environment than it is food. Food allergies account from 5-15% of all allergies and require a proper elimination diet trial to diagnose the cause, so I wouldn't worry about switching around foods at this time. Bathing is a good idea, because it may remove the environmental allergin that is causing the problem. I would recommend bathing about once a week with cool water; using a shampoo and conditioner labeled for cats with oatmeal or aloe as ingredients. You can also get ear flush at the pet store. This will help treat/prevent ear infections and remove allergins. There are some good instructional videos on youtube that can show you how to properly do this. I recommend flushing once every other day for two weeks. However, this kitty needs some relief from the inflammation and it may be necessary for a trial treatment for ear mites. If the vet you went to before did not offer any sort of treatment options, then I would either ask for a follow-up visit or go to another vet for a second opinion. Ouch, poor Bambi! Gently clean the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep your dog away from her, and have her rest quietly so the wound can heal. Monitor it, and if it becomes red, swollen, warm to the touch, or you see pus, then it's infected and she should see a vet right away for antibiotics. I hope this helps!
