My rabbit's ear is full of gunk. Is it ear mites? What should I do?

Thanks for reaching out about Thor. Ear mites or infections can be pruritic (itchy) to the point of bleeding. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan, as each are a different medication. Don't attempt to clean it out as this could cause more bleeding. Rabbits get ear mites commonly and it's very difficult to see all the way into a rabbit ear canal without the proper equipment. Schedule an exam with your rabbit vet to have his ears examined with an otoscope. He may need to be sedated for this, and your vet may want to do an ear cytology as well. I have used topical Revolution very successfully to treat rabbits in the past if this is his issue. Also, ear mites are very contagious between bunnies!

This is probably due to a severe mite infestation (scabies), you will need to take her to the vet ASAP in order to get treated with a medication called ivermectin, it can be applied as an injection or spot on, usually 3 treatments one week apart from each other is enough to solve the problem.

Hello. Rabbits are prone to ear infections & parasites like ear mites. They can also produce a significant amount of ceruminous material in the canals . This is rarely of any significant consequence & just may require some additional care for the ears. Your rabbit will be fine tonight, so do not worry. I wish I could tell yo I exactly how much it will cost but since cost varies for different areas and different clinics, I would recommend you to call the vet you plan to use and ask them for an estimate for an exam, possible ear cytology if needed, sedation if needed and an ivermectin injection if it is ear mites. They should be able to give you a rough estimate over the phone but I would also ask them to give you a more exact estimate after the exam as sometimes treatment changes after the exam. Finally, if it is too expensive then I would ask if there are any other options that are a little cheaper. The vet may be able to give other options, but not always. I hope this helps!

I would check the product instructions and follow that. I recommend that you have Oreo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. BunBun should see a vet as soon as possible.
