Why is my African pygmy hedgehog's poop green? Is it serious?

Green stool can happen in hedgehogs. It can be caused by a variety of reasons, including stress, illness, or diet change. If he otherwise seems normal than you can monitor him and see if the color goes back to normal, especially if you have introduced a new food. If you have any concern that your hedgehog is sick, take him to a veterinarian. It is fine to add water to his food but you should still offer him fresh water in a water bottle at all times.

Hello! Quilliam could have any number of problems. His feces could be green and mucousy from parasites, a bacterial infection, a liver problem, or from eating something he shouldn’t have. In order to get a better idea what is going on, the feces should be examined for parasites, fungus, and bacteria. A full physical exam and perhaps X-rays or blood work would also be helpful and your veterinarian would be able to do this. There isn’t really anything you can do at home aside from evaluate his diet and make sure he isn’t eating inappropriate food or items. Good luck.

Green stools could indicate an internal parasite infection. She may have had parasites all along or she may have contracted something from her prey. I personally don't think that stool looks all that abnormal/green. If I were you I would monitor her closely and if this type of stool continues then I would recommend you speak to a reptile veterinarian and have a fecal test done. One mild concern would be a condition call chlamydophilosis, which can also be communicable to other birds and people. Unless you have been feeding Peach a large amount of green-colored food, green coloration usually indicates a large amount of bile released in the intestines, and this can indicate a disease process. A common diarrheal disease of Gerbils is called Tyzzer's disease, and it can cause fatal dehydration if not treated. I'm glad to hear that Peach is still eating, drinking, and acting normal, but if the diarrhea continues or if his attitude changes, I strongly suggest taking him to the vet as he may require antibiotic treatment and fluid replacement therapy. This condition may also be contagious, so keep a close eye on the other gerbils for similar symptoms.
