How to identify the snake in my attic? Is it venomous or safe?

Thanks for reaching out and including a photo. Does appear to be a garter snake, which are not poisonous. Just because not venomous, does not mean it wont' bite and they still have saliva that can cause some reactions in humans. In many states, keeping wildlife captive is not legal and is very stressful on the snake. Consider re-releasing or presenting to a wildlife rehabilitation society. Good luck.

Without an image, it is difficult to determine. It may indeed be an introduced species. Another possibility would be a slow worm , or legless lizard which are common in the UK. If you still have it, submit it to a veterinarian experienced in treating reptiles or to a zoo for identification.

Unfortunately there is nothing I would recommend doing at home, other than keeping Panther warm and encouraging water consumption as much as possible. Treatment of venomous snake bites is usually focused on pain medication with injectable opioids, IV fluid therapy, and antivenom. Monitoring blood work is important as well. If there is any way to get Panther to a vet I would recommend traveling.

They could be bird eggs (they would have a hard shell) or reptile eggs (they would have a soft leathery shell). You may want to take them to a local extension office or biology teacher or wild life center for identification.

It is difficult to determine due to the lighting/color of the image. Pythons eyes will bulge out a bit and some have a genetic defect that causes pronounced bulging. This is not normal. Monitor for discharge, cloudiness or redness. If the bulging is just on one side, that is also cause for concern (tumor, trauma, infection) and should be addressed by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles.

Hello! Eating the shed skin of a snake should not be a problem for Rocky. It could be that he could get some GI upset from it, but if he only ate a bit of it, there may not be any GI upset seen. I don't think you need to go to a vet for him for this ingestion. Luckily in Great Britain, you only have one venomous snake, the adder, and he would have had to be bitten by this snake in order for there to be a serious problem that requires an immediate vet visit. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. It is unlikely that any poison on the lawn will cause any problems. I have heard of decapitated snake heads still able to release poison into a person's hand. The biggest thing would be to try and locate the head so that Cherokee does not find it and try to chew on it. I would trim the lawn very short so that you are able to find the pieces more easily.
