You can restrict his area to a location where the grass is cut. You can leash walk him in the areas you prefer until he gets used to going in those areas only. When the weather cools the snakes become less active so there will be less moving around

It is possible that Snickers got bit and may have a small wound, especially if he is licking the area. I recommend trying to examine his foot and see if there are any visible wounds. If he continues to seem irritated by his foot, i.e. keeps licking it, for longer than a day, I would have him seen by your veterinarian. If he has a wound, it can be become infected and even abscessed (pocket of infected fluid), if left unmanaged. I hope this is helpful!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bluey! I am glad that Bluey is doing ok at 2 days post snake bite. The prognosis is fair to good with early intervention (antivenom, hospitalization). I think he prognosis is guarded with out Veterinary care. In one study, 8/11 affected dogs survived to discharge, with a median hospital stay of 4.5 days. Clinical signs can last for 1-1.5 weeks, and full recovery may take months as neurologic receptors regenerate. Even if she doesn't receive the antivenom, administration of appropriate supportive care is very important. Clip and clean the wound. Broad spectrum antibiotics may be indicated for 7-10 days if infection and localized tissue damage/necrosis are present at the bite location. Although the mouths of snakes contain a multitude of bacteria, prophylactic antibiotics are not warranted for most bites. Clinical signs can be delayed, with American snakes it can be 10-18 hours. Clinical signs are primary neurologic, respiratory, and cardiovascular in nature. They may include hypersalivation, vomiting, diarrhea, ataxia, depression/decreased mentation, ascending flaccid quadriplegia (curare-like syndrome, decreased spinal reflexes), muscle fasciculations, reduced nociception, hypothermia, anisocoria, dyspnea, tachypnea, tachycardia, cardiac ventricular arrhythmias, cranial nerve deficits (e.g. decreased pupillary light, gag and swallow reflexes), weakness, and respiratory depression. Evidence of coagulopathy (e.g. hematuria, hematochezia) can also occur. Aspiration pneumonia is a potential complicating factor. Death is possible and is usually secondary to respiratory paralysis. My best recommendation is to seek Veterinary Care, but I understand your situation. The best thing to do is watch her closely and hope for the best! I hope this helps and I wish Bluey the best!

Hello. The biggest concern would be Parvo, but this is usually a very easy disease to screen for. Without knowing how old you other dog was, what diagnostics were run & treatments started, I cannot comment on why she died. As for a new puppy, they are all vulnerable to disease until they receive all of their puppy series at 8, 12 & 16 weeks of age. You may want to restrict the new puppy to an area of the yard not generally used previously & limit time outside. Keep the puppy away from any public areas, clean up after everyone defecates & I think all will be OK. I am sorry for your loss but hope the new puppy brings you many years of happiness. Hello. Most sprays are safe for pets once the spray has dried, or has been watered into the lawn. I would be sure there are no food or water bowls that might have been sprayed. Either toss them or wash in hot soapy water. The same goes for any chew toys out there. But generally, once a spray has dried, or the area has been watered down & allowed to dry, pets can roam freely, again. The only concerns would be if your dog eats a lot of grass, or finds something to chew on that was left out & sprayed, so keep an eye out for this. That is just terrible! As far as I'm aware, there is no dog poison that will soak into their feet and kill them. Washing Noir's feet is a good idea, and to be safe, I'd take her into the vet to have her checked out. Best of luck.

Dogs unfortunately love to sniff (and even lick or eat) other dead animals, so it was great that you were able to act quickly and keep Jordy from eating whatever that was. It sounds like you keep him up to date on all of his vaccines, which is excellent. As long as he continues to act normally (eating, drinking, urinating and defecating normally), and is otherwise healthy, I would not be concerned. I hope this is helpful!
