I found a tiny worm in my bathtub. Could it be from my dog or drain?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. These are tapeworms and they come from your pet ingesting a flea or eating another pets poop that has live tapeworms in it. It is contagious to other pets and people via ingestion of a live worm. You will need tapeworm specific dewormer such as Drontal or Praziquantel to rid this worm and a good flea preventative (Bravecto, Nexgard, Firstshield) is recommended. Usually tapeworms are gone after the first treatment as long as puppy doesn't get reinfected. I hope this is helpful! Take care now.

There is a parasite called a cuterebra that looks like a large maggot or grub that can be in the skin. These should be removed by a veterinarian. That is about the only worm I can think of that would come from the skin. What you are seeing may not actually be worms. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If you physically saw a long white worm come out with Suzie's poop, it is likely a roundworm. If you saw the poop a few hours later and it looked more like a small earthworm, it is more likely a fly larvae. If it's the first, check out a dewormer such as Sentry HC WormX Plus Flavored De-Wormer Chewables for Dogs, (Pet Co). Be sure to check that the product is labeled for Suzie's weight and age. That does not look like a normal intestinal worm. Intestinal worms are white or light yellow. I suspect this is something he ate. Wrap it up in a baggie and take it to be examined by your veterinarian. To be safe, have the store checked for worms since some rooms can be spread to humans. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are a couple of worms types that Diamond could have, both of which could cause her to get pretty sick. Roundworms and stomach worms are possible and can cause a significant amount of damage if left untreated. Additionally, roundworms are zoonotic meaning people can contract them through infestation with their larvae, necessitating treatment. As long as she isn't acting sick, just make an appointment to have her examined by a veterinarian within a few days and a fecal examination performed to determine what kind of worms they are and what the best medication is to treat Diamond for them. If she starts showing signs of illness, have her seen as soon as you can. Hope this helps!

It would be worthwhile taking a sample to your vets office to confirm exactly what species they are but if long and thin they are likely to be a roundworm species and not tapeworm (flat segments and often moving). There are many types of roundworm and your vets should be able to help you identify what you have so you can both treat and try and reduce re-occurrence

I'm not sure if that's a tapeworm or a roundworm (the two most common). I recommend to have Stitch examined by the veterinarian and have his stool checked for worms. if he has one type of parasite, he may have others. Because some types of parasites can spread to humans, it's important to know the parasite status and to make sure that all pets are treated completely and correctly.
