Why did my white Pomeranian have black puppies? Is it genetic?

Depending on the genes of the two hamsters who mated, a variety of different hamster colors can be created - even if it doesn't seem to match either of the parents. This is because of dominant and recessive genes/alleles that compete for expression in the genome. There may have been a larger dog in the family tree somewhere and your Shakira happened to get those genetics. Also, are you certain her parents are who you think they are? Is it possible there was an accident and there is a different father than you thought? Either way, Shakira is beautiful and looks healthy and that is what's important!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Genetics do come in to play for how an animal will look, including hair type. Poodles have tight curly hair and Cavaliers have wavier hair. Which puppies in the litter get what hair type is a roll of the dice! I hope this helps!

It just means there is some variation in the genetics of coat color. Coat color is determined by multiple sets of genes, so even if the parents are one color, they could carry the genes for other colors, and thus have puppies that are a different color than them.

Hi and thank you for your question! Sometimes dog hair can change in color and texture when they age just like human hair can. I wouldn't worry too much about the hair change unless it appears like he is loosing fur, the skin around the fur is red, inflamed, scabbing, or infected-you will want to see your veterinarian if that is the case.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Bichon Frise are all white. Other all white breeds are Westies, Samoyeds, Bolognese, Coton de Tulear, Contonese, Havenese (there are other colors though so can't guarantee all white). Have a good day!

Thanks for visiting Petcoach. This breed often can have white or tannish colors throughout the coat. There are also some German Shephards who are purely white.
