Is it better to visit my dogs or not see them during a long absence?

That sounds like an awfully big change for Spring, so he may experience some anxiety and stress about being chained up, especially if he hasn't before. Spring likely won't forget you if you return to him, as dogs have gone years before seeing their owners again and are usually happy at their return. Looking into seeing if someone else can watch him that can give him more time, or seeing if a rescue can take him temporarily into foster care may be better off for his mental and physical well-being. Being chained all day long with little exercise or care likely isn't the best for him. You may try contacting a local shelter in your area to see if they have any programs such as temporary fostering that may be a better option.

Hello. Dogs have excellent memories, for the good & the bad, but they also have a tremendous ability to forgive & move on. But their memories do work differently than ours for some things. There is a possibility you may see a little depression in the dogs initially, but in my experience dogs tend to adapt and will probably bounce back quickly. If your parents are noticing depression in Rocky once he moves perhaps they could find a doggy day care where he could interact and play with other dogs occasionally. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think this is perfectly ok and she will be fine. I am sure she will not hate you. Dogs understand more than we think and I am sure she knows you are leaving because you have to and you are coming back. What I recommend in these cases is to leave something with your scent like perhaps a t-shirt or something like that so that she can smell you when you are gone. This will help bring her comfort. I'm so sorry you had to give away Finley, how heartbreaking for you! I don't think Finley would think he's coming back to you if you go and visit him. He's had time to adjust to his new home, and is likely very settled there. I'm sure he would be happy to see you, but he will likely view you as a visitor to his home. I think it would help you see him in his new home, and I would go visit him if you'd like :-)

Yes she will remember you but she will likely miss then when your return as she will have a new routine by then. She likely won't be more attached to your parents in that short time frame of care. But it is good she will get used to them and that environment for the future. It will make it less stressful down the road if she needs to watched again

Poor guy. I hope he gets well and is able to come home soon. Pet visits are absolutely welcomed and encouraged. Cats aren't as attached as dogs, but they do enjoy visits from their owners and this can boost morale and also the health of the pet has been shown to increase when there is an emotional tie to a present owner. I would encourage you to visit your pet Memi everyday he is there, twice daily if possible, and I hope he gets well soon!
