Should I visit my dog in the hospital? Will it upset or help him?

I'm so sorry you had to give away Finley, how heartbreaking for you! I don't think Finley would think he's coming back to you if you go and visit him. He's had time to adjust to his new home, and is likely very settled there. I'm sure he would be happy to see you, but he will likely view you as a visitor to his home. I think it would help you see him in his new home, and I would go visit him if you'd like :-)

Hi. This may be normal after spending a lot of time in the hospital. Most pets don't sleep or get as much rest as normal in the hospital. I would monitor tonight, let him rest, and if it is the same tomorrow, I would contact your veterinarian tomorrow. Good luck, and I'm sorry Memi isn't feeling well.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to Cookie - I hope she is recovering well in the ICU! This is very normal for dogs to show little reaction when their owners visit, especially if they are on numerous medications, including pain medications. These medications can make them very drowsy and "out of it", so they aren't acting their normal selves. There is always a component of confusion too - because they do not realize that being caged in a strange new place away from home (i.e., an ICU) is for their benefit so they can heal and come home. I think Cookie just needs a little more time to heal and wean off some of her medications, and she should get back to her usual loving self! I hope this is helpful.

The urination doesn't necessarily alarm me - I expect Winston is probably receiving a lot of fluids via an IV catheter, so he is likely producing a lot of urine and may have just really needed to urinate! However, I do worry that he's still vomiting despite his anti-nausea medication. The vet treating him will definitely be the best resource for input on his overall prognosis, since they have the full picture and can examine him in person. I think you're right to be concerned, but I wouldn't be giving up hope - some serious cases of pancreatitis just need several days of hospitalization before they start to turn around. You're doing the right thing by keeping him hospitalized at this point. Fingers crossed for your little guy! I hope this helps.

Wow this makes my heart hurt for you and Luna. I think visiting her is confusing her, makes her miss you. If you aren't able to move out on your own to take her back, then I would stop visiting her. I'm so sorry.

It looks like he is suffering from some liver and kidney values elevations and he also is anemic. (Low red blood cells). Since I do not not his current condition and how long this has been going on, it is difficult for me to give you a survival time. If this has happened quickly and could be a toxin then with aggressive therapy (hospitalization and IV fluids), then these values could go back to normal and stay that way as long as there wasn't any permanent damage. If this has been chronic and his urine is very dilute then this could be permanent damage to the kidneys which is a much poorer prognosis long term. I would still recommend hospitalization and IV fluids if possible. I would talk to your vet about whether he needs fluids, antibiotics, appetite stimulants, anti-nausea medicine etc. I hope this helps and your sweet baby gets well really soon!
