My unspayed dog is sick, holding rear up, and has a fever. Pyometra?

There is a very high white blood cell count that is mostly neutrophils so there is definitely an underlying infection somewhere in the body. She is also very anemic and her chloride is very low. Unfortunately, her symptoms are non-specific. Anything disease process or illness can cause lack of appetite. You can not use feel to assess body temperature. They often feel warm to the touch but their body temperature will be normal, however, in this case, with the underlying infection I suspect she is feverish. You would need to take a rectal temperature to get a proper reading. The first thing that always comes to mind in a an unspayed dog is a uterine infection (pyometra) so I suggest you speak to the vet about that possibility. If it is not that you will just have to continue testing for things until you find something. The list of possibilities is very long from tick borne diseases to cancer and anything in between. Poor girl. I am unsure if she is spayed or not, but if she isn't she could have an infected uterus (pyometra), overheated, a current tick borne disease (i.e. Ehrlichia is a possible cause if she was currently re-infected), etc. Skin infections very rarely will cause a systemic increase in body temperature, so this is likely not the cause. I am sorry there are no vets open right now, but it is good that she i still eating well and relatively alert. I would make a point to get her seen as soon as the vet opens for some bloodwork analysis to start. I'm so sorry your pet is so ill. It sounds like Holly may have an infection. Bacterial infection causes pet to shake and be uncomfortable, they are also lethargic not eating and have a fever. You can certainly check her rectal temperature and if it is above 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit, then an infection is likely and she needs to see a vet. I see she isn't spayed so it is very likely she has an infection of her uterus (pyometra) which can happen at any time and can be life threatening if not treated quickly. Your poor pup! If she isn't spayed, I would be very concerned that she has a pyometra. This is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment, and it would cause a white discharge as well as vomiting. It sounds like your vet may have been suspicious she had a pyometra and tried treating it medically with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Unfortunately the medical route often isn't successful, and surgery is needed to treat it. This means spaying her. I would take her back into the vet immediately, as this is a medical emergency. I would be very concerned about Bubbles, and take her into a vet immediately. I see that she isn't spayed, which means she can develop a life threatening infection of the uterus called a pyometra. A pyometra is fatal without treatment, and it causes vomiting, weakness, and lethargy, all signs she is showing. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain if she has one or not, but because of the seriousness of a pyometra I would take her into vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. These signs could be due potentially to a uterine infection. That is usually called pyometra and could be a surgical emergency unfortunately. I would recommend a check up at your local veterinarian as soon as possible.

Hello. The pus in her uterus is a very serious condition called pyometra. Usually, the best way to deal with this is to perform an ovariohysterectomy & spay her. The only time to consider treating this condition with medications is if Chuski is a valuable breeding animal. But you are risking her health & she could die from this. Please consider the surgery.
