My dog has a high fever, red gums, and is clingy. What should I do?

Based on the symptoms you have outlined, I would guess that Chai most likely has some sort of infection somewhere within the body. Given that there is some vomiting, a reasonable assumption would be somewhere within the digestive tract, liver, or pancreas. Only blood work would provide us with enough information to at least point us in one direction or another. Chai is going to require some medications to address the vomiting and fever, as well as some fluids most likely to correct any dehydration that is taking place. If there is an infection somewhere within the body, at least one antimicrobial drug will be required to clear things up. I don't know about the Philippines, but in USA most of the drugs that will be required to help Chai are prescription only, meaning you will have to find a veterinarian to help you. Some other possibilities other than an infection would include organ failure, an endocrine condition called Addison's disease, and even cancer. There is a very high white blood cell count that is mostly neutrophils so there is definitely an underlying infection somewhere in the body. She is also very anemic and her chloride is very low. Unfortunately, her symptoms are non-specific. Anything disease process or illness can cause lack of appetite. You can not use feel to assess body temperature. They often feel warm to the touch but their body temperature will be normal, however, in this case, with the underlying infection I suspect she is feverish. You would need to take a rectal temperature to get a proper reading. The first thing that always comes to mind in a an unspayed dog is a uterine infection (pyometra) so I suggest you speak to the vet about that possibility. If it is not that you will just have to continue testing for things until you find something. The list of possibilities is very long from tick borne diseases to cancer and anything in between. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to diagnose her via the internet. I hope this clarifies a bit and I wish Stephanie a speedy recovery.

I'm sorry Cher isn't feeling well! I would be very concerned that she may have a pyometra, which is a life threatening infection of the uterus. While her temperature is a low fever (a dog's normal temperature is 38.3-39.2C), being sick and holding the bum in the air can be a sign of a pyometra. A pyo is fatal without treatment, so it's best Char is seen by a vet now. Should she have a pyo, spaying her is part of the recommended treatment.

Hi there, It sounds like your dog may have an infection based on the fever and red gums. The weight gain could be due to thyroid disease, or something affecting her endocrine system. I would recommend an exam and blood work as suggested already and possibly an X-ray if she’s gained the weight rapidly. Best to you and your dog.

I'm sorry all your dogs are suddenly sick! Thank you for providing pictures of one of your dogs. From the picture of the teeth, I see areas of redness, but they appear to me to be localized around the teeth itself. It makes me think those red areas may be due to gingivitis, but without seeing your pups in person, I can't say for certain. When I hear that all dogs in a family have suddenly gotten ill, I think that they have either gotten into something rotten or something toxic. Given that all your dogs are ill, the best thing to do is have them seen by a vet as soon as possible. The vet can diagnose what is causing their symptoms, and can treat them. I’m sorry to hear Crispy isn’t doing well. I would highly encourage blood work if that hasn’t been done. The white gums and fever concern me about infections that can cause anemia, like ehrlichia. Causes of a fever are: Lyme disease, immune conditions, infection (urinary, joint, lung) or pending GI upset. If she isn't better by the morning she should be seen by your Vet. I wish you the best!
