How to train my dog to poop outside and stop jumping on guests?

I recommend having Lilly in the crate when people come over. When they are inside and settled then let her out of the crate to greet them. They should not focus on her just continue socially with you. If she's calm they can pat her but I wouldn't do anything to get her excited. Over time she'll learn that when she's under control she can be with visitors. If she gets too excited then I would put her outside or back into the crate, This is not punishment per se but rather a time out until she can control her behavior. Training her will take time and patience but it will be worth the effort when you have a well behaved companion. Many dogs get very excited when visitors come to the door! I would recommend asking guests to call ahead for now when they are coming over, so that you can put Vesta on a leash before they arrive. Use the leash to keep her under control, and use treats to reward her for sitting or other calm behavior. Once she calms down a bit, your visitors can also ask her to sit for treats and petting. It takes lots of time and patience to work on this issue, so be patient with Vesta while she learns! A simple solution is to crate her or to keep her in a separate area of the house when company arrives. Then let her out after everyone is settled and keep her on a leash to control any jumping. I have found it more successful though to work on obedience training. Ensure that she knows how to sit. When company walks in, ask her to sit. Again, keep her on a leash while she is learning to control the jumping. Once she sits, provide her with a very high value treat that she only gets when someone comes over. You can use a food puzzle toy, rawhide or anything that will be time consuming for her to consume. The goal is for her to anticipate the treat, sit when someone comes in and then take the treat to go enjoy by herself. Good luck!

I agree that curbing this behavior is a good idea. The best thing to do would be to train Rey to go to a specific location when someone enters the house. She should be trained to sit and wait until you call her. Begin training with just her. Then introduce the other dog on a leash with a helper. This will take some time and the guidance of a professional trainer may facilitate and speed things up. This is very normal behavior for a puppy this age - jumping up is a natural greeting behavior for dogs, and biting and mouthing are how puppies explore the world. You will need to be patient and consistent to teach him what you want him to do. When people come to the house, he needs to be on a leash or in another room behind a baby gate until he calms down. Praise and reward with treats when he keeps all four feet on the floor, or teach him to sit for greetings. Make sure that he has a variety of different toys to provide an appropriate outlet for this behavior - long floppy rope or fleece toys for tugging, plush toys for biting and carrying, and smaller toys or balls for chasing and fetching. Providing lots of things to chew on can also help, especially when you are busy or have company over - try things like bully sticks, cow or pig ears, rawhide chews, and puzzle toys like a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. It sounds like Eli isn't fully potty trained yet. I recommend using the basics. 1) have a set daily schedule. As soon as you wake up take her out, as soon as she's done eating, as soon as she's done playing, and before she goes to bed. 2) meal feeding- this helps determine when she needs to potty. What goes in will push the stool out usually within 15-30 minutes. 3) Use a lot of praise when Eli goes potty outside. Lastly, I recommend making the space within her crate smaller, either by buying a smaller crate or blocking off the back end so she only has enough space to stand up and turn around. If she has enough room to poop in one corner and sleep in another, she will have a hard time separating her bathroom from her den. Good luck and kisses to Eli!

She is a baby. You can’t expect her to be housebroken or know proper behavior at this age. I recommend a puppy class so she gets socialized with other dogs and to burn off excess energy. Taking her for lots of walks and tossing toys for her to play with outside will tire her out and decrease the biting behavior. She’s just playing now, and this behavior will improve as she grows up. Personally in order to house break a dog I keep them in a crate at all times that I’m not able to supervise them so they do not have an opportunity to poop in the house.
