Hi, Lilly (4 months shihtzu) is always too excited when someone walks through the front door. She jumps and spins around guests in an uncontrollable manner. I try to grab her but some times she bites me so I can let go of her. It is embarrassing to me as not all people like this dog behaviour and some of them freak out. I also worry that she would hurt herself. What do you advise me to do to calm her down?

I would keep a leash on her when guests come over to be able to better handle her. I have also trained my dog to go to his “place” when I give the command. That can be a rug or a kennel- something with a physical boundary. It takes time and reputation, but you can train her to go to her place. This eliminates the craziness with the guests as she is not allowed off the “place”. Good luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
