Why did my special needs dog die suddenly? Was it a missed UTI?

I'm very sorry for your loss. With the lab changes you described, sepsis and cancer certainly were possibilities. A UTI would have to be quite severe to cause sepsis. If you were accustomed to monitoring for signs of a UTI, I highly doubt that you would miss one severe enough to cause sepsis. I am so sorry you lost JenJen. That is always traumatic! Unfortunately it is not possible to tell you why your dog died without a post mortem. There is a possibility that JenJen had kidney failure due to the UTI and that can cause death, however this is speculation without having any further history. I suggest you have JenJen sent to a pathology lab to find out why he died. I am wondering why JenJen was in hospital with a UTI. This does signify that he must have been very ill. Discuss having a post mortem done with your vet. This will hopefully show up the cause of death. Again I feel for you having lost JenJen. I am so sorry.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. I am not sure how old she was, but losing a pet no matter how old or young is still hard to cope with. Over time it does get a little easier to cope with this lose and you should always cherish the good moments you had with your pet. As a side, you do have the option of getting any pet a necropsy (examination of the body rigth after they pass) to hopefully determine the cause of death. It is impossible to know for sure what caused her demise based on the symptoms you described but it is possible she may have had a stroke, an underlying heart condition or cancer. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain what happened, but it could be she had a problem with her heart, got into something toxic, or may have had cancer like a splenic hemagiosarcoma that ruptured. Yes, uti, kidney disease or diabetes are all possibilities. I would definitely consider euthanasia at this stage given her progressive conditions which are not going to improve and are becoming increasingly restrictive on her independence and quality of life

There is no way to know for sure but diabetes, an infected uterus, kidney disease or a possible brain lesion are all options. Diabetes can cause cataracts which leads to sudden blindness along with drinking excessively and vomiting when they ketoscidosis from it. It usually requires days to weeks of hospitalization when that advanced. Kidney disease also causes drinking a lot with vomiting but unrelated to blindness. Since she is not fixed, her uterus can get an infection called a pyometra which allows it to fill with pus. It requires emergency surgery to fix. This too can cause drinking a lot and vomiting. I am sorry you lost your baby and hope this helps bring you comfort.

I'm sorry to hear that but these are very general symptoms of organ failure so I couldn't tell you what could have possibly caused that, it could be pretty much anything, from an internal disease to an intoxication.
