Why is my spayed female dog leaving yellow spots and smelling fishy?

If the smell comes and goes, then it is most likely from the anal glands. Dogs have scent glands on either side of the anus that release a stinky liquid that commonly smells fishy. If she is scooting or licking excessively, then I would have your veterinarian check her anal glands to make sure that they are not overly full. However if the smell is coming from her urine, then I would be worried that she has a urinary tract infection and would recommend having your veterinarian examine a urine sample. Good luck! I would assume the small is from her anal glands I would recommend having a veterinarian express them to make sure they are not infected or impacted. If they are infected it can cause excess licking but not linked to urinary issues. If dogs are spayed very young they can get incontience issues. However I would highly recommend doing a urine culture first and making sure she is 100 percent healthy before starting incontience medications

Even though Blossom's anal glands are empty she could be leaking anal gland material and that is what you are smelling or they could be infected. Having your Vet express them and see what the material is like may be helpful. The other possibility is a UTI, but they usually have increased urgency to urinate. She could also have an infection around the skin of her vulva. I would bring her and a urine sample to your vet to have those areas checked out. Good luck!

Vaginal discharge can be caused by a number of things. Both the urethra and vaginal openings exit the vaginal/vulvar area so discharge could indicate a problem with the urinary tract or with the reproductive tract. With any strange discharge, it is a good idea to schedule a veterinary appointment to check it out. If the discharge becomes cloudy, green or yellow in color, it is best to seek veterinary care as soon as possible as that may indicate something more serious such as a uterine infection (in unspayed females, but can occur if part of the uterine stump is left during a spay).

If she is leaking urine she also have have urinary incontinence. There are 2 medication options for urinary incontinence in female dogs: Proin or DES. I recommend making an appointment with your Vet today or tomorrow and bring a urine sample with you. If Polly has a UTI the Vet will likely prescribe antibiotics. In general any changes in urination should be evaluated by your vet. Specifically for your girl, we commonly associate a strong fish odor to the urine with certain bacterial urinary tract infections, so I would have your vet check a urine sample on her to assess for a urinary tract infection or any other abnormalities in her urine. Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I agree this is concerning. I suspect Pacha has an infection either in her vaginal canal or in her bladder. Some vaginal discharge is normal but the odor and increase in leakage is not. I recommend to make an appointment this week to have Pacha examined. The veterinarian will likely test a urine sample to determine if that the source of infection. Antibiotic selection will depend on the source of the infection. If it is vaginitis, she may get an antibiotic and a probiotic. One other thought, you may also ask the veterinarian to check her anal glands. Anal gland excretions are a VERY common cause of bad smell from the back end of pet. Sometimes the glands are infected but sometimes they are just full and benefit from being expressed.
