Is Simparica safe and effective for my tiny chihuahua's ticks?

Simparica ( Solaner), is a monthly flea & tick product that is extremely safe. Please ignore all those unsubstantiated remarks online. No product that is known to cause death or seizures would be allowed to be sold for very long. I would definitely continue its use if this is what your veterinarian recommended. The active ingredient in Simparica is sarolaner. At this time, there are no known drug interactions reported with sarolaner. I would therefore use a spot on treatment for fleas and ticks like Frontline or K9 Advantix II. I hope this helps!

As long as Jasper is older than 6 months of age and weight more than 2.8lbs, it should be safe. By your information, that appears to be the case. Lethargy and gastrointestinal upset (vomiting or diarrhea) are the most commonly reported side effects.

Simparica is a once a month flea and tick preventive medication and giving it daily will soon overdose your dog and possibly cause severe health problems and death. So please, give Simparica only as instructed on the label. A one time application will likely be enough to kill the mange. If not, ask your vet to prescribe Bravecto (one-time application) for your dog. You can give Omega 3 fatty acids daily.

Generally, we at Pet Coach recommend using one flea and tick medication. I would recommend only using the K9 advantix on Pistol. It kills fleas, repels fleas, kills flea egg and larvae, kills ticks, repels ticks, and kills and/or repels mosquitoes. Simparica only kills fleas and ticks. Hello. All tick and flea products if overdosed or if the individual animal has a sensitivity can cause seizures as the drugs typically work on the nervouse system of the insects. Check with your vet about which products in your area are safe and effective. Avoid cheap products because amounts of drug aren't regulated and we often see advrse side effects with the grocery store products (or dollar store products). Also, always give as directed and don't overdose or give a different animal meds meant for your animal or vice versa. Overall zoetis products like nexguard and bravecto are good and this looks like their new product.

It is ok to give trifexis and simparica together (staggered by 2 weeks is great). Both of those medications will protect against fleas so there is some overlap with that. If you want to streamline how many medications you are giving Dakota monthly, Another option would be to use sentinel or interceptor instead of the trifexis and give with that with simparica monthly. These products contain the same heart worm preventative (milbemycin) as trifexis but do not contain any medication to kill adult fleas. (Trifexis contains both the milbemycin for heart worm prevention and Spinosad for fleas). That way you would be giving one medication for heart worm prevention (sentinel or interceptor ) and one for flea and tick prevention (simparica). Another option is to continue trifexis and add in a tick collar (such as the preventic collar or the seresto collar). I know there are so many products and options it is confusing !
