Is shower steam safe for momma dog and newborn puppies in bathroom?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | unneutered | 4 days old

I have 5 day old puppies. I want to move the Momma and the babies into a hard plastic kiddie pool in my bathroom but I’m worried the steam from the shower will affect them. The Momma has been trying to move the puppies into our room every chance she gets (where she usally sleeps). The bathroom is off of our bedroom. Will the steam harm the puppies?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

I think it will be fine if you leave the bathroom door open and turn the exhaust fan on. You can also use a fan to blow the steam out or just pull the kiddie pool out when people shower.

I wish you the best!
