Can hair dye fumes harm my puppy recovering from bronchitis?

Certain chemicals in hair dye is known to be toxic to dogs, but it usually takes more than a lick to cause serious complications. However, I would expect some vomiting and excessive drooling from this. If you are not seeing this within the first hour after she licked it, then it's a good sign that she will not have any toxic effects. However, you should monitor her for signs of excessive vomiting, difficulty breathing, and/or lethargy as a sign that she is having serious complications. If you notice this, then take her to the vet immediately for treatment. In-fact, if there is any concern about toxicity, then it's best to take her to the vet for treatment and monitoring. If you don't notice any signs of toxicity within the next 12 hours, then most likely she will be fine. For now, it's best to give a little milk (about 1cup) and plenty of water. Similar to humans, fumes can be irritating to the eyes and respiratory tract. If the ventilation was appropriate enough that you were comfortable then likely your dog was too. If you were wearing a mask then your dog probably should not be in that area. Watch for any coughing or difficulty breathing. Hello. I think Stark will be just fine, especially if she did not puncture the bottle or lap up any spilled contents. This solution would be pretty nasty tasting & a little irritating, so if you have not noticed any drooling or salivating at this point, then she will be fine. Dogs rarely cough due to hairballs since they do not lick and groom themselves as cats do. Instead, a more common cause of a short-lived gagging cough, particularly in a small breed dog, is a collapsing trachea. Other possible causes of Bailey's cough include heart disease, heartworm disease, chronic bronchitis, kennel cough, canine influenza, among other issues. I recommend taking Bailey to her vet for a physical exam and chest/neck x-rays to try to get to the root of this problem in case more immediate treatment is needed.
