Why does my Shiba Inu have a pink, raised eyebrow-like rash?

This is probably due to a severe allergy, although it could also be fleas or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat her with a high quality flea treatment (e.g. advantage), then get her to the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try discovering the cause of the allergy. Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair the skin lesions (steroids and antibiotics). simultaneously you should start her on a prescription hypoallergenic diet for at least 2 months. Hopefully you will see some results after all this, if not you and your vet should consider putting her on a long term allergy treatment (Atopica or Apoquel).

It does appear that this is more a problem with the skin around the eyes rather than the eye itself. This is commonly seen with demodex (https://mobile.petcoach.co/amp/article/demodectic-mange) infestations in juvenile dogs. It is less common with older dogs and is more of a concern with older dogs. In a puppy, these infestations will resolve on their own after a couple of months. Some require treatment with an antiparasitic. If Bear is an adult, then he will need treatment. It's also possible that this is infected by yeast or bacteria, so it's best to have a vet evaluate him to make a diagnosis. For now, it's good to flush the area with saline for 1-2 minutes three times a day. If it is getting worse, then he probably needs professional treatment to keep it from getting too bad. This looks to me like a demodex mite infection which can happen in puppies and may clear on its own but if Mia is an adult, this will need to be treated by a veterinarian. Demodex mites are normally kept in check by the immune system but if the immune system is not functing as it should for whatever reason, the demodex mites can take over and cause hair loss around the eyes, head, and limbs. Demodex mites can be diagnosed by a veterinarian through a skin scraping. Mia will need a special medication for this in order to resolve the infection. Scratching and itchiness can be caused by various reasons such as fleas, mites ,fungal infection, bacterial infection and allergies. the first 4 needs to be ruled out before we start treating for allergies. in order to do that first de-flea Bear with a high quality flea treatment such as advantage spot on, if it doesn't help - take him to the vet in order to check for/treat the other possibilities. If everything is ruled out, then an allergy treatment can be started. Usually an hypoallergenic food is a good way to start together with anti histamines. if it doesn't help - the best solution is a medication called Apoquel which treats allergies with great success and without side effects.

Hi there and thanks for posting this question. Certainly there can be many causes for this, but young dogs commonly will have a mite called demodex mite. I suspect by the age and description that this may be the problem. I would recommend that he be seen by a veterinarian. They will likely do a skin scraping to look for mites. This is more likely if you also notice, redness, swelling, or discharge from the eye. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Buffy to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Buffy to scratch or rub her eye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. Because eye concerns with dogs, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly, and can result in blindness, I would have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. Ouch! That looks uncomfortable. There are a few potential causes for JJ's eyes issues. The first could be pain or inflammation of the actual eyeball, and JJ could be rubbing his eyes and irritating the skin. There is a mange mite called Demodex that canal so cause reddening of the skin around the eyes. There are also a few other inflammatory or infectious things that can cause this as well. If he is not back to normal in 48 hours, or if it appears to get worse, I think the best thing for JJ would be to have an exam with a veterinarian. Mange mites can easily be diagnosed in the clinic and treatment can be started right away before it gets worse!
