My senior dachshund won't eat her canned food. What should I do?

Hello. Have you tried any canned, wet or soft-moist foods? Some dogs do seem to prefer this as they age. I would especially try the FreshPet diet as many pets really seem to like it. Otherwise, there are certain brands in the market that are highly palatable such as Purina Pro Plan shredded blends. You can try adding chicken broth to his food. You can try those things but if nothing seems to work, he should be re-evaluated by a veterinarian to ensure that there is not a medical issue going on with him. Good luck and have a great day!

I'm not sure if you meant that Kiinley doesn't like her food mixed, but does like it separated, or if she only likes it together, but feeding it in whatever configuration works for her to eat is fine. If she is having trouble eating at all, or keeping food down, a wellness/senior check with your vet is a good idea to rule out any health issues that may be causing her poor appetite. You can also try to sneak in a few "extras" such as a little piece of boiled chicken or carrot.

If she will eat it that way, then you know she will get the extra water as she eats. You may also try a different brand to see if she will eat their senior canned formulas. I recommend to stick with other high quality brands like Royal Canin and Purina ProPlan. Eukanuba and Nutro are also good brands. If she will eat these diets, you could mix water with the canned food and add it all to the dry food to almost create a soup. Hi. I would recommend trying a different high quality food to explore if there is one she may like better. Science diet, royal canin, Iams, and Purina are the top quality brands. I would also make sure she has had a full exam, especially of mouth, and labwork, as well as a fecal sample test just to be sure there isn't another obvious cause of decreased appeitie.
