My senior dog won't eat her food after sickness, but eats human food

Thats hard to say. Pets can have upset stomachs for many reasons. This can range from bacterial over growth, to parasites, to inflammatory bowel disease to kidney disease to even cancer. Without a physical exam and likely some basic diagnostics, its impossible to know the cause. Home made diets are not good long term unless they are formulated by a veterinary nutritionist. Otherwise the diets are often unbalanced which can result in problems if they are fed long term. At home you can try feeding her a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% plain boiled what rice. Feed this for 1 week. Giving her probiotics during this time may also help. If she is not back to normal after 1 week, if she gets worse or if it returns, she needs to see her veterinarian. This diet is not balanced but it is fine to feed for this length of time. Hello. I would just slowly try to re-introduce Jagger's food by adding just a little more of his food to the chicken & rice at each feeding. Soaking his food in low sodium chicken broth may help too. Just mix it up well & maybe let it sit for 15-20 minutes to meld the smells & flavors before feeding. You could feed boiled chicken breast and cooked white rice and see if she feels better within 24 hours. If she doesn't want to eat that or she continues vomiting she should probably get checked out by a vet since she is an older girl. If she isn't normally bothered by thunderstorms, then it is unlikely that they would cause her to lose her appetite this morning.

I suppose it's possible but I am concerned there is something else going on. Unhealthy human food can cause pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can lead to liver damage, peritonitis and multi-organ failure. Queen could also have a partial intestinal blockage or have kidney damage. Because she has abnormal for 1-2 weeks now, I recommend to have her examined as soon as she can be. She will need some bloodwork and she may need a radiograph. I recommend to go ahead and start a bland diet now. a bland diet is not likely to fix her problem but it won't hurt. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. Encourage her to drink water and keep her activity minimal so she is resting. Make sure to bring in a stool sample as well because parasites can also cause prolonged GI issues. It could be that Dakota has a GI illness or may have eaten something that upset her stomach. It's good that she has stopped vomiting and is drinking water, but I imagine her stomach is still a little sensitive from the vomiting. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. I would feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Hello! Thank you for posting your question! It sounds like Lulu as quite the taste for chicken now! If Lulu didn't throw up with the chicken I would say it's alright to mix some of the chicken in with her hard food. Have you tried adding a small amount of chicken broth to her food? That might entice her to eat her dry food again. If she likes that, it is alright to use a small amount of the broth with each meal just to add to the palatability. I hope this helps! Any calories at this stage are welcome so boiled chicken and rice, with some vegetables, would be a good option if she is willing to take it. Vitamins/minerals such as the nutritional gel or a tonic would also be recommended whilst she is undergoing investigations for the cause of her poor appetite (kidney, liver or cushings disease would all be possibilities)
