My senior dog is throwing up yellow foam. Should I change his food?

Hello, sorry to hear about Vanilla. If she is done this once or twice, you should remove any food for the rest of the day and start her on a bland diet later on. This can be composed of plain white rice, skinless and boneless chicken, and low fat cottage cheese. If this does not improve her vomiting, or if she vomits more than 4 times in one day then Vanilla should be seen by a veterinarian today. This could be caused by a large number of things but in older dogs, inflammation of the intestines, a dietary indiscretion, liver disease, kidney disease, pancreatitis, or even some form of infection could cause vomiting in a dog. Chronic vomiting is always a good reason for concern, it could be a sign of an internal disease such as a tumour, kidney failure or pancreatitis among other things, you should take Wolfie to the vet in order to get it checked, he will need to have a blood test done so the vet can gather some more information.

Vomiting and diarrhea can be normal when foods are switched or if they eat something they shouldn't have. To help prevent it in the future you can mix the foods before changing completely. As long as Winston is still playful and not having diarrhea and no change in his appetite I would not worry.

If this is a new, sudden behavior, it's a good idea to have Jazmine examined by your vet, especially since she is a senior girl. Sudden symptoms like this could indicate an underlying illness, something obstructing the GI tract, or even changes to the tract itself affecting motility. If she is gulping her food down, feeding smaller meals more often may help prevent her from throwing it all back up as well.

Hello. There any many things that could be going on with Elvis. He ciuld have something stuck in his stomach bouncing around that is intermittently causing a blockage and vomiting. An x ray or ultrasound would gelp determine this. Elvis could also have a food allergy so trying a different good could help. Try a good quality food. He could have a problem with his pancrease( inflammation or insufficiency), blood tests would show this, or he could have a motility disorder in which biopsies would be needed. If he is otherwise bright and happy and eating, try switching his food and avoid bones, raw food or table scraps and see of that works. If not or if Elvis seems sick otherwise then get xrays and bloodwork done with your vet. Good luck with him!

If your pet has vomited this much in the past 45 minutes I would be very suspicious of a foreign body or a very intense dietary indiscretion (eating something he shouldn't have). I would recommend you start supportive care (like Famotiidne 05-1.0mg/kg every 12 hrs and a bland diet like Purina EN Gastrointestinal canned food OR boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese. However there is a big possibility that this could have been a toxicity and if any more symptoms start to arise (such as ataxia (staggering) or shaking, crying out) then I highly recommend you seek a personal veterinarian for a physical examination and further diagnostics. - Dr. H
