Why did my senior dog suddenly collapse, poop, then snap out of it?

There are any number of medical reasons that might explain this, but the most likely would be a seizure (not all are classic grand mal), or a heart issue. The best way to determine the cause is to let your veterinarian do a full exam & blood work to rule out any metabolic or otherwise obvious reasons for the episode. I am sorry Major is not doing well. With an older patient a wide range of possibilities could cause this behavior like infection, brain lesion, vascular even (stroke) and even trauma to the spinal cord. I would recommend taking him to the vet as soon as possible for evaluation to see if there is anything you can do to help Major. I hope he improves

It's hard to say what this could have been. Maybe just a weird thing Lucky did, a seizure, a fainting episode, etc. I would say if he is back to his normal self, then don't worry about it much. But if these episodes continue or he has other abnormal behaviors or symptoms, you should call your vet.

It is possible that it was a seizure, or it may have been what we call a syncopal episode. A syncopal episode occurs when there is a sudden decrease in blood flow to the brain, often due to an abnormal heart rhythm or other heart condition. Its also possible that was neither---if she remained conscious (was responsive and aware of her surroundings), it could just be that she had a itch or uncomfortable spot on that side she was trying to get to. As long as she's been acting normal since, its fine to just keep a close eye on her and get her to your vet for the appointment. Your vet may recommend running some lab work (probably some blood tests) to see if there are any abnormalities. Ask yourself and your mom if there is any possibilities of toxin exposures your dog could have gotten into, and be sure to let your vet know. What you are describing sounds like it may be seizure. This can happen at any age from getting into something or having a change in their nervous system or brain. At her age, it is safest to have her checked by a vet to make sure there are metabolic reasons this was started. If it is a seizure then there is medicine they can start to help prevent further ones and control it

I'm concerned that Gilby's issue may be more related to a possible heart condition or other health problem rather than being caused by the collision with the lab. It sounds like he may have been having a series of syncopal episodes. Its also possible that this was seizure activity that you were seeing. Take Gilby to your vet to be evaluated. If he's still doing fine its not super urgent.... you don't need to rush to an ER... however, make an appointment if at all possible in the next couple of days. This sounds like he may have had a seizure. Sometimes these happen for no reason (epilepsy) from stress or anxiety other times there maybe a medical reason. Since he is returning to normal and doing better you can monitor for any further episodes if he has another seizure then he needs to be examined to see what is going on and possibly started in medicine.
