Why is my dog sick, not eating, and tired after human food?

It is possible she's developed an aversion to her regular food due to the recent sickness you've described. I am unsure if her food made her sick or not but I would make sure there are no recent reports of illness or recalls associated with this food. I recommend feeding a bland, easy to digest food such as homemade, boiled chicken breast mixed with white rice. If she eats this well with no vomiting or diarrhea for a couple days, you can gradually mix in her old food to reintroduce it or try a different type of dog food.

A few things could be going on: One, if he got into people food and it was high fat or very rich, he could be experiencing some digestive upset. Picking up his regular food and feeding a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken may help settle his stomach and get him back on schedule. Signs of GI upset also include vomiting, diarrhea, sore belly, etc. If this is the case and a bland diet doesn't help, or he has quite a few GI symptoms, seeking veterinary care is best to rule out more serious issues such as pancreatitis from eating people food. Two, if he prefers people food to his food, it could be he's trying to "hold out" in the hopes you are going to give in and give him more. If he's otherwise healthy and normal, it is best to stop offering ALL people food and treats, and only offer his dog food. You may need to put his food down for 10-15 minutes several times throughout the day to encourage him to eat. Most dogs will not starve, and will eventually check out their food and eat it. (Sometimes pretending its people food can kick-start this as well!)

Thats hard to say. Pets can have upset stomachs for many reasons. This can range from bacterial over growth, to parasites, to inflammatory bowel disease to kidney disease to even cancer. Without a physical exam and likely some basic diagnostics, its impossible to know the cause. Home made diets are not good long term unless they are formulated by a veterinary nutritionist. Otherwise the diets are often unbalanced which can result in problems if they are fed long term. At home you can try feeding her a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% plain boiled what rice. Feed this for 1 week. Giving her probiotics during this time may also help. If she is not back to normal after 1 week, if she gets worse or if it returns, she needs to see her veterinarian. This diet is not balanced but it is fine to feed for this length of time. I would recommend transitioning her to a different food and consider adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora. I would try 2-3 different foods and see if that makes a difference. If there is no improvement, then I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Layka evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can offer a bland diet which may help. This diet could be composed of rice, boiled chicken, ham, turkey, lean hamburgers or low fat cottage cheese. You can keep him on a bland diet such as the boiled chicken and white rice, cottage cheese, or just plain white rice. I would wait for the blood test results before trying any other diet and or treatments. His signs could be due to an infection, parasites, kidney and/or liver issues, pancreatitis, and rarely endocrine disease.

She may have ingested something that isn't agreeing with her GI tract. Monitor her and if the symptoms worsen, seek veterinary attention. If not, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet ( boiled boneless / skinless chicken and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts. Serve warm or mix in a teaspoon or two of baby food to stimulate the appetite. If her appetite does not return or she begins to vomit, see your veterinarian.
