Why is my senior dog's penis swollen, foul-smelling, and causing pain?

If you are seeing insect activity on Judge's body, whether it is the penis or anywhere else, there is an extreme infection and necrotic tissue that needs to be debrided by a veterinarian. This is not something that should wait until tomorrow and should likely be dealt with this evening at an emergency facility. The foul odor you are smelling is not the penis itself, but the infection and toxins that are being released from it. The vet is going to have to investigate what has happened, in terms of an underlying cause for the swelling and necrosis. As for cancer, it is impossible to know this without diagnostic testing from a veterinarian. Cancer of the genital organs in a young dog would be somewhat uncommon but not impossible.

Chico could have a urethral prolapse, an infection or some type of trauma to that area. He needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Without treatment that tissue could become dead/necrotic, he could have trouble urinating which leads to other issues like kidney failure as well as long term damage like scarring. Do not give him any human medications as it can be toxic to dogs. Keep him from licking at the area and remove and discharge with a warm, moist, clean cloth.

This is a serious edematous swelling and needs to be seen by a veterinarian today. This may be located in the preputial mucous membrane, or possibly the tip of the penis. Hello. With the chronic nature & non responsiveness to medications of this condition, I would be suspicious of a foreign object high up in the fornix of the sheath. It can be something as tiny as a piece of plant material like a grass awn or cedar chip or a tiny piece of stick. It is generally pretty easy to do the exam under anesthesia, but sometime it requires the use of a rhinoscope or bronchoscope to really get a 360 degree view of things all the way back. Bleeding from the penis can have various causes: Xander could be suffering from a UTI, an inflammation of the prostate, penis or prepuce or a tumor. Since he is not eating and lethargic it is likely something that causes him pain and he may have a fever. You can carefully push back his prepuce (foreskin) and then inspect his penis for injuries or growths, or to see where exactly he was bleeding from or is still bleeding from. If he is still bleeding you should take him to an emergency room this evening. If it stopped bleeding but he stays lethargic or will not eat his breakfast tomorrow morning or if you find injuries on the penis , then you should call your vet for an appointment.

It sounds like he might have an infection. Your vet can examine him and prescribe an antibiotic, if needed. If you see any discharge then you could clean it with a DOUXO® Chlorhexidine Pads and see if that helps. Otherwise, see if your vet can see him before Wednesday so treatment can be started.

An abnormal shape to the penis could indicate inflammation or a tumor. I can’t tell from the photo if Wilie’s penis looks abnormal or not. This is a situation where a veterinarian visit is the best option. I recommend to have Willie examined by the veterinarian to get a better idea of what is going on.
