What causes a senior dog's foggy eye to become red and swollen?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Female | spayed | 16 years and 4 months old | 10 lbs

I have a min pin and she is about 17 years of age. About 3 months ago I noticed a foggy film cover her in such a short period of time. It must have happened in 3 days tops it seemed like to cover her whole entire eye. It stayed like that uugygyntil about a week ago. It literally seemed like over night her eye was completely red and slowly seems to be more and more swollen like. It doesn’t seem to bother her and it doesn’t seem like she is in any type of pain. I am lost please help me!!!

Oh no, that looks really bad. Evie could have a severe eye infection, and I can guarantee that is painful to her. I would be afraid this eye will have to be taken out it looks so bad. This is a medical emergency, she has to see a vet now. Please take her into one immediately.
