My senior blind dog's eye is red and swollen, drops aren't working

This is a very abnormal looking eye and it appears that your dog has some serious issues with the cornea. The cornea is very cloudy and hazy and the pink lesion looks like a large ulcer on the cornea. This eye is likely chronically dry and lacking in tear production. This eye looks like it is in imminent danger of rupturing. I would recommend that you take your pet to the closest emergency clinic if you are unable to get help from a regular daytime vet right away. Your pet should be seen immediately and it is not a good idea to wait for 7 days. Your pet will likely need multiple prescription eye medications and possibly surgery in order to repair the defect. Please do not try to treat this without a proper diagnosis and proper medication.

Oh no, that looks really bad. Evie could have a severe eye infection, and I can guarantee that is painful to her. I would be afraid this eye will have to be taken out it looks so bad. This is a medical emergency, she has to see a vet now. Please take her into one immediately.

Hello, poor Cooper that looks painful!!! He has quite a bit of red around his scleral and the conjunctiva of the lower eye lid appears to have a hematoma (bleeding) or chemosis (swelling). I looks as though he may have bumped his eye into something. However, some of these signs can also occur with an eye infection, corneal ulcer, or foreign body. Cooper will likely need at least some pain medications to keep him comfortable while the swelling goes down. He may also need to have his eye stained to check for an ulcer and eye ointments to treat for an eye infection. It would be best to have a veterinarian examine his eye sooner than later. Deep ulcers can progress quite quickly without medical management. Any ulcer or foreign body can be quite painful. If you think however, Cooper is comfortable and isn't showing any signs of pain (squinting, rubbing eye, or being lethargic) then you may monitor the redness at home to see if this gets better. Poor Maggie! Red eyes can occur for a variety of conditions, including corneal ulcers, anterior uveitis, blood clotting disorders, infectious conjunctivitis, among others. Eyes are delicate structures and can progress rapidly, so I recommend taking Maggie to her vet fairly urgently for evaluation to get to the bottom of things. Until you can get to the vet, put an e-collar (cone) on Maggie to prevent her from rubbing or scratching her eye, as this can make matters worse. I hope that she feels better soon!

Olini needs to see a vet as soon as possible. Potential causes for the sudden change that you see in the eye include severe conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer or abrasion, glaucoma, uveitis, and trauma. I can't quite tell from the picture, but it may be proptosed ("popped out"). If you have an emergency vet clinic open near by, this would be a case that I would advise seeking emergency care.

This looks like a swelling of Poppy's conjunctiva as opposed to the eye itself. It could be due to an allergic reaction or infection such as conjunctivitis. She will need eye drops and antinflammatories to settle this down so go to your vet as soon as you can. In the mean time pressing a cooled tea bag on the outside of the eye can provide some relief.

It's a little difficult to tell exactly what might be red and swollen in your picture. It looks like the redness and swelling may be around the eye as opposed to actual eye itself. If this is the case, an allergic reaction or eyelid infection would be two of the more common causes. If it is the white of his eye that looks swollen conjunctivitis, a corneal abrasion, or inflammation in the eye would all be possibilities. If the swelling worsens or if you notice swelling around the other eye or the muzzle I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian as soon as you can since this would increase the concern for an allergic reaction which should be treated promptly. Otherwise I think you're okay to wait to see your regular veterinarian if the swelling is still present in the morning, unless he seems painful or begins squinting.
