What to do for my senior dog's bleeding ear wart that won't heal?

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Female | spayed | 11 years and 1 month old | 33 lbs

My cocker spaniel is 11 years & 2 years ago had a couple of warts removed to check if cancerous. They weren't and she has several more but at her last check up in June I was told they were ok and normal. However one on her ear bleed when she went to be groomed. Since then it's got very sore looking and keeps bleeding. I bathed it with salty water to prevent it becoming infected. Any advice on what else I can do. My vets are a car ride away and my daughter is away at present so cannot get there.

It is very common for older, small breed dogs to get these benign warts. I usually only recommend removal if they are causing issues (like this one). If you can't get it to heal you may have to have it surgically removed.

I suggest you order this wound spray to put on it. Use as directed. If no improvement, have your vet check it out.

In general, if a wart is bleeding it is worth considering removing it, so it would be worth discussing that with your vet as well. Poor pup! No, I don't think that this looks likely to fall off on its own. In fact, since it has doubled in size and is also open and oozing now, I would consider it even more important to have it surgically removed. It would also be best to have this mass sent off for histopathology to find out if it is cancerous or not, especially given its recent rapid growth.

It looks like the wart just got inflamed or traumatized. I would not worry about it. Cleaning it and applying Neosporin is perfect! Great job! I would keep it clean and keep applying the Neosporin until healed. Just DON'T use peroxide on it as that will inhibit healing. Hope this helps! Best wishes!

My old dog has a bleeding eye wart. Can it be treated without surgery?

I would ask your veterinarian about the option to freeze the wart off. it is small enough that it may work. However, working near the eye with the freezing solution is risky because the freezing solution could go into the eye and that would be bad. There are cotton swabs you can freeze and then apply the cotton swab to the wart and see if a few treatments with this would help shrink the mass down in size. Unfortunately, surgical removal is typically the best way to get rid of these masses. I hope this helps!

My dog's neck wart is bleeding and growing. What can I do to help?

You can clean it with soap and water and apply Neosporin to help with the bleeding and discharge. There are no other options at home. Your vet can examine it and discussed surgery options to remove it so you do not have to worry about further episodes of scratching or bleeding. I would recommend this is able since it is growing

My dog has a bleeding, vein-like growth on her ear. What is it?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This appears to be a small wart like growth, or small tumor. These can be quite common on older dogs. I would clean the area with peroxide & apply some topical antibiotic tonight, & have Sadie seen by your veterinarian at your earliest convenience. It may be nothing at all, & only requires observation, or it might be best to remove the growth to prevent bleeding episodes, but it does not look too serious. Hopefully, all will be well soon. My dog's wart fell off and is bleeding. How do I care for the wound?

You can continue disinfection at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths twice daily for the next 4 days. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. It is best not bandage as the healing will be much quicker. If the lesion do not resolve in 4 days time a check up will be needed as antibiotics may be required.
