My dog's neck wart is bleeding and growing. What can I do to help?

It looks like the wart just got inflamed or traumatized. I would not worry about it. Cleaning it and applying Neosporin is perfect! Great job! I would keep it clean and keep applying the Neosporin until healed. Just DON'T use peroxide on it as that will inhibit healing. Hope this helps! Best wishes!

Also, you can clean the dried blood and dirt with boiled, warm water or antiseptic solution (4% chlorhexidine works best). Once your local vets are open again, you should get Toby seen by them. The growth does not look nasty but if it is getting bigger, bleeding or bothering your dog, surgical removal should be discussed.

You can continue disinfection at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths twice daily for the next 4 days. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. It is best not bandage as the healing will be much quicker. If the lesion do not resolve in 4 days time a check up will be needed as antibiotics may be required. I recommend that you have this mass evaluated by a veterinarian. It sounds like it may be some type of cancer; whether benign or malignant would need additional diagnostics such as fine needle aspirate in a clinic or removal and histopathology. Possibilities include papilloma, hemangioma, mast cell tumor, among many other possibilities. If it is bleeding, you can apply firm pressure for 15 minutes.

You can clean the area with warm water and mild soap. If the area does not close within a day, continues to bleed, has a discharge, an odor or is increasing in size Bugsy needs to be seen by a veterinarian. He should also stay indoors until the area is healed.

It is very common for older, small breed dogs to get these benign warts. I usually only recommend removal if they are causing issues (like this one). If you can't get it to heal you may have to have it surgically removed. I suggest you order this wound spray to put on it. Use as directed. If no improvement, have your vet check it out. Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, this presentation could be due to a localized persistent spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem.
