You are right that it can take a while for symptoms to occur, sometimes up to 24 hours after ingestion. How worried you should be depends on the amount of chocolate she ate and the type of chocolate. If she ate dark chocolate, your MIL should rush her into a vet immediately as it doesn’t take a lot to cause toxic symptoms. Milk chocolate will require more to cause symptoms. If she ate milk chocolate, I wouldn’t rush home just yet. Have your MIL watch her for vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and muscle tremors. It's best to take her to the vet considering the amount of chocolate ingested is unknown and she was vomiting (an early sign of chocolate toxicity). It's also concerning that she ate the wrappers, because these can cause problems in the intestines as well. There's not much to be done but treat the symptoms after more than 12 hours. A visit to your vet would be prudent if your dog ate a large quantity and is having tremors/twitches or an irregular/fast heartbeat. If he is acting normally otherwise, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (boiled boneless, skinless chicken breasts and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts. Feed until the stool is normal, then transition slowly to the regular diet. If the diarrhea doesn't resolve, see your veterinarian.

That amount of chocolate could certainly be a concern for as small a dog as Asta depending on the amount of chocolate in the cake and type of chocolate. 2oz of bakers chocolate would be enough to be potentially fatal, but she would have had to eating about 8oz of mild chocolate to be getting to a similar reaction. That said, usually issues are seen within about 12 hours and include increased heart rate, hyperactivity, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, and death. Increased urination is not an issue I would associate with chocolate toxicity. If she is otherwise completely normal, you don't need to anything else. But if she seems off, has tremors or seizures, she needs to see a emergency veterinarian right away. Although the THC content can cause some severe symptoms in dogs, it is not likely to be fatal or to cause any long lasting effect, the symptoms can last up to 48 hours though so i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get to get supportive treatment. the chocolate itself is actually more dangerous that he canabis but if the amount is not more than 15 gr then this is fine as well, it's a low amount of chocolate, nothing that would cause any serious toxic effects.
