My 11-year-old dog has a red eye and poor vision. What's wrong?

(Probably happened when crashing through the wood pile.) If you have one or can get one from a pet store, put an E-collar on Lizzi to protect it from further damage (scratching/rubbing at the eye). This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, uveitis, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Oh goodness! Poor Paris! Sadly Paris needs to see a Vet for her eye. A painful red eye needs immediate Veterinary care. Possible causes are: a corneal ulcer, infection, allergies, trauma, inflammation or glaucoma. There are specific medications that are safe for the eye and she needs a diagnosis first. I agree that Macie's eye looks very red! This can be a sign of an eye infection as well as trauma to the eye or allergies. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. This can be caused from trauma, insect bites, allergic reactions, etc. If this does not resolve after 24 hours, I would have Charlie examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. The most common causes of hyphema are: * Injury or trauma to the eye or head * Retinal detachment or dysplasia * Hypertension - high blood pressure * Infection by certain parasites * Vasculitis - leaking blood vessels * Uveitis - inflammation of the front part of the eye * Cancer - uveal neoplasia and lymphoma (most common) * Glaucoma - increased eye pressure Some of these things may be life threatening. Therefore, its diagnosis and proper treatment is very important. I suggest you get Mara to your vet for an exam as soon as possible.
