How often should I apply Revolution for my dog's sarcoptic mange?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Revolution can be applied every 4 weeks. There is also Bravecto which is a topical that lasts 3 months. The Seresto collar lasts 8 months and comfortis is a monthly pill. For the last 2 there is no application error which is nice. Otherwise, part the fur to the skin and apply the contents of the Revolution to that spot and then put the hair back. It is normal for some of the liquid to go down over the hair. Maybe try the base of her skull or shoulder blade area so it doesn't go down the sides. I hope this helps!

I'm sorry to hear about your issue with Cheyletiella. They are a bothersome parasite to deal with! Apply Revolution every 2 weeks for 3 treatments (use appropriate dose for your kittens' weight). You can use Frontline Plus as well if you feel you aren't getting the results you wanted at the dosage of Revolution stated above. Fontline Plus can be applied every 2 weeks at the correct dose based off body weight for this problem. You should also use a lime silver dip or topical flea product to clean the kittens. Diluted bleach 1 part bleach:9 parts water sprayed on all surfaces and allows to sit for 10 minutes before wiping clean should help. All bedding and toys should be washed in hot water or thrown away. Thanks for reaching out about Moyel. For a medium sized rabbit like this, then entire tube of the 5 pound and under can be used, even though she is slightly larger than 5 pounds. It should be repeated monthly for 2-3 applications. All rabbits in the house need to be treated even if no evident lesions. Cats can also possible transmit this. Also, don't forget to have her spayed as intact female rabbits could have a rate of uterine cancer up to 50% by three year of age. Good luck.

The veterinarian will have to give you specifics on how to give this medication because by law we are not allowed to give out the very complex dosage regimen for ivermectin without having first physically examined Pushinka. We are bound to the rules of the veterinary client patient relationship act, which prohibits this or we fear disciplinary action and even a loss of our license. If you ask your vet they will likely give you the dosages that she needs based on her weight. She will need to be on this for roughly 4-6 weeks. She needs to have 2 negative skin scrapes before being taken off the medication and skin scrapes should be done every 3 weeks. I would also continue the shampoo we discussed to also control the secondary bacterial infections that are occurring on her skin. Revolution treats mange but it should be repeated 2 weeks after the initial dose to be effective. The fact that he is an indoor cat makes mange less likely but it can happen. He could also have a skin infection and/or allergies and need additional medications. Call your vet and give him/her an update and have him rechecked. He might just need an antibiotic and an antihistamine.

Usually a dog with sarcoptic mange is retested after 2 treatments and considered mite free after testing negative 2 months in a row though this protocol may vary depending on the veterinarian. A good bath followed by a sulfur lyme dip once a week should help speed things up. Sometimes dogs that have scabies also have a secondary bacterial and/or fungal infection. Systemic antibiotic and/or antifungal therapy is necessary to treat the skin if a secondary infection is present. Once treated appropriately, It usually takes 4-8 wks for all of the hair to grow back/mites gone. I would have a veterinarian look at his skin and prescribe you the appropriate treatment.
