My dog has mites. How long for Simparica to work & be mite-free?

Wet dog and massage shampoo into entire coat. Allow shampoo to sit on him for 5 minutes then rinse thoroughly. Use 2x weekly for first two weeks and weekly thereafter. Once skin condition clears begin using on a regular basis to sustain a healthy coat (like once every 3-4 weeks). For use on dogs only. Simparica is a once a month flea and tick preventive medication and giving it daily will soon overdose your dog and possibly cause severe health problems and death. So please, give Simparica only as instructed on the label. A one time application will likely be enough to kill the mange. If not, ask your vet to prescribe Bravecto (one-time application) for your dog. You can give Omega 3 fatty acids daily.

While Simparica is licensed for flea and tick control it likely has a similar effect on mites (similar to Bravecto). Apoquel will not heal allergies, but it will relieve itching caused by allergies in many cases.

If your veterinarian suspects a secondary infection, they could prescribe antibiotics. You can also use an e-collar to prevent self trauma. Good luck!

A good bath followed by a sulfur lyme dip once a week should help speed things up. Sometimes dogs that have scabies also have a secondary bacterial and/or fungal infection. Systemic antibiotic and/or antifungal therapy is necessary to treat the skin if a secondary infection is present. Once treated appropriately, It usually takes 4-8 wks for all of the hair to grow back/mites gone. I would have a veterinarian look at his skin and prescribe you the appropriate treatment. Ear mites are easy treated with products such as Simparica, Nexgard, Bravecto or Credelio. These are by prescription only and can be obtained from your veterinarian. Oftentimes, just one dose of any of the above can resolve ear mite infection. The fleas may be more stubborn. You can give Chaos a dose of CapStar to rapidly kill any adult fleas on him. This medication can be given daily if necessary. Follow up with an oral or topical preventative. Treat monthly for at least 3 consecutive months, preferably year round. Consider "pre-treating" your home with an area treatment, such as Indorex or Knockout ES, to prevent infestation. Most fleas live in the environment and will hop on a dog (or you) only to take a meal. Consider an exam with your veterinarian to diagnose and treat any infection or other underlying conditions.

No worries. The one on the left (Simparica) should be given every 30 days and the one on the left (Milbemax) should only be given once initially and then again in 2 weeks for the treatment of roundworms and hookworms. Although if Jake only had tapeworms it only requires one treatment of the Milbemax. Tapeworms, if found in your pets stool, are caused by ingesting a flea, so reinfection is possible if you don’t keep up with giving the Simparica on time every month. I hope this helps.
