How to stop dog accidents due to separation anxiety and new home?

Hello. I would start with an over the counter anxiety product like Zylkene. I would also start using a dog appeasing pheromone in the home ( room diffuser ) or it comes as a collar. The pheromone can calm an anxious dog without drugs. Adaptil is the name of this product. If this does not help over the course of a couple of weeks, you will need to talk to your vet about possible behavior modification therapy & the use of prescription medications like Trazodone. There are a multitude of issues that can cause urinary accidents, including urinary tract infection, bladder stones, kidney disease, diabetes, and more. It may be related to your absence. You can reinforce crate training. Walk him before you go out. Get him acclimated to your absence as well. Do this by preparing to leave several times daily. Leave sometimes and other times prepare to leave but then stay. Go out for ever increasing periods of time. Do not make a big deal when leaving or arriving. Use a special toys or treat as a distraction when you go. A pheromone product, such as the Adaptil collar or DAP plug in diffuser, may decrease any anxiety.

Moving to a new area, new home, and the addition of changing to being an only dog is a lot of new changes all at once. Sometimes it just takes time for dogs to acclimate to their new life and new home. She is likely feeling a little insecure in her new place, but that is not unusual. Keep her busy with exercise. Lots of walks, lots of play time with you and gradually introduce her to new people making the experience positive with rewarding her for good behavior with a treat she really really loves. Calming chews with L-Theanine in them can also help as well as a number of Rx medications that can help smooth the transition if you are finding yourself and Luna in a road block with progress. Also, working with a trainer around your area can be a very helpful to keep Luna on track and moving in the right direction. So Bella is not doing that to get attention, it's more a manifestation of her anxiety. There is also a chance that Bella has a urinary tract infection or other health issue causing the accidents. It sounds like the trazodone was helpful to her, so you may need to consider keeping her on it. The good news is trazodone tends to be a pretty safe medication for dogs. It could be that your Boston may be experiencing some separation anxiety due to moving into a new home. I would recommend crating him when you are gone. The crate will provide him a small space where he can feel safe in it when you are gone. You will have to slowly train him to get used to a crate. Start putting him in it when you are home and sitting nearby so he doesn't think you are abandoning him, and slowly increase the time he is in it. He can have toys in the crate, and puzzle toys with treats in it that he has to figure out how to get the treats out. You can also fill a Kong toy with peanut butter and freeze it in the freezer overnight, then give it to him in the crate. That will keep him occupied for a while. Finally, you can get a pheromone diffuser called DAP that helps dogs with anxiety.
