My new puppy just arrived. Should I remove his water bowl at night?

Yes, it's fine to take Jack's water away at night but be sure to take him out to potty right before bed and you will probably need to take him out at least once in the middle of the night. First thing in the morning when he wakes up, offer him water. I hope this helps!

I would take away Marley's water at least an hour or two before bed, and then take him out to potty right before bed. Reducing his access to water before bed should hopefully keep him from needing to potty twice in the night. You can also crate him at night, and that will help him hold his bladder overnight.

I'm going to give you a link with details on how to crate train a puppy, but I do not recommend leaving food and water in his crate overnight. This will make him have to go out to the bathroom more overnight, and since you will have to get up twice to take Cooper to potty every 2.5 to 3 hours, you don't want to have to deal with additional times to take him out or messes to clean up. If he's sleeping fine in the crate, you can start closing the door. This is always true for dogs as it is hard to know when exactly they will feel the need of drinking water but it is especially true for puppies as they are a bit harder to predict. Hello, and congratulations on your new puppy! I am assuming you have started potty training Max to go outdoors, not indoors on a pee pad? A puppy at 4 months should be able to hold his bladder about 4-5 hours overnight. This means that if you want him to go potty at 7am, you'll need to take him out for a pee around 2-3am. The good news is that over the next few months as he grows older, Max should be able to hold his bladder longer and longer, until he will be able to hold it for at least 8 hours overnight. At his age it is not ideal because their blood sugar can get too low in the middle of the day. If it's unavoidable however, it is ok. Because of his high rate of growth, a quality diet labeled for puppies- especially large breed puppy- is the best thing for him. Congrats on your new little one and kisses to Max!
