I'm rehoming my puppy and feel heartbroken. How can I cope?

If you're not ready for a puppy, then you're right that the best thing for Mimi is to find her another home. It is going to be much easier for her to get attached to another person quickly at this early age than it will be later. We often describe that dogs live in the moment. So, while Mimi may miss you for a short period of time, she will quickly learn to love and be attached to her new owner. Putting human emotions on dogs (like depression) is called anthropomorphism. There is no way to quantify this in dogs. Is it possible the puppy with be confused and unsure of what is going on if you give her away - but to label it depression......no one knows. But it will better that she move on to another person if you cannot take care of her for whatever reason. Do what is best for her. If you cannot manage her then get her with someone who can. She will be fine.

Hello, and thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear that Honey is having some trouble adjusting to her new home. Hopefully you brought with you a few familiar items with you from Honey's previous home, like a blanket or bed. Make sure she has access to that. Offer her plenty of cuddles and attention. Offer her usual food and treats from your hand, to help gain her trust. If Honey is used to a crate, make sure you use a similar one in your home. Place her bed in there and she should quickly be drawn to it as a place of comfort and safety. I'd also look into a product called Adaptil, which is a canine pheromone that can help reduce stress and anxiety in new environments. Give it time. It is a difficult phase for Honey right now, but she should gradually get used to her new home and learn to love her new family, if you are patient, consistent, and offer her a nurturing loving home! Dogs are very adaptable but it’s hard to keep adjusting to a new person and a new house. Dogs like stability. They want to bond with their human. They like a routine and changing households will disrupt all of that and begin the process over again. Hello. It may be, but you need to do what is right for you. If you can find a kind & patient individual to adopt Olivia, she may do fine. Many shelters & humane societies will work with foster homes to hopefully keep Olivia out of a more stressful shelter situation. But do try to keep Olivia with you as best you can. She is very young, the only things you can do for her at this point is feeding her with a puppy milk replacer every 2-4 hours, keep her in a warm place and give her a lot of love. make sure she is pooping regularly as well.

Spaying stops the heat cycle, eliminates the risk and cost of unwanted breeding, and early spaying can eliminate the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer, as well as reduce the risk of potentially fatal uterine infections and breast cancer.
