Can I give away my puppy? Will a young puppy be sad or depressed?

I can undeerstand that you are very sad, however I have to commend you for wanting the best for your puppy. You are a responsible person who realised that this is not the time for raising a puppy and therefore, rather than being selfish and letting the puppy suffer for it, you have decided to rehome it to a home where they have time for her. I suggest you stay in contact with her new people so you can visit her sometimes and see how well she is doing. So , while it is sad, don't be sad as she will have a happy life in her new home. You can be proud of yourself for making this decision!

If you're not ready for a puppy, then you're right that the best thing for Mimi is to find her another home. It is going to be much easier for her to get attached to another person quickly at this early age than it will be later. We often describe that dogs live in the moment. So, while Mimi may miss you for a short period of time, she will quickly learn to love and be attached to her new owner. Puppies at this age typically are too young to experience this type of emotion. Depression also isn't common in adult dogs either. However generally speaking they would exhibit similar signs seen in people: loss of weight, decreased appetite, and moping behavior.

There is a possibility you may see a little depression in the dogs initially, but in my experience dogs tend to adapt and will probably bounce back quickly. If your parents are noticing depression in Rocky once he moves perhaps they could find a doggy day care where he could interact and play with other dogs occasionally. We can't diagnose depression in dogs, but I guess it would be possible. I would start with a thorough exam with your vet. They will ask about all of the things that happened around when you noticed her symptoms. They may want to check for endocrine diseases that can affect behavior. If everything checks out medically, they can prescribe medications for anxiety or depression as a trial.

Hello, depending on how long this has been going on you may give him more time to snap out of it. If he continues to be sad for longer than a day, or if he has a decreased appetite, vomiting, or diarrhea, then you should have your puppy seen by a veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck,

She may have a little sadness at the loss of her sister, but it should be very temporary (a week would be usual). She may not be her active self; she may even refuse to eat for a day or two. But all puppies need to go off on their own eventually (except in those cases where a breeder keeps two or sells two together). Eva should be just fine.
