My newborn puppy was rejected and is crying. What should I do?

Puppies usually cry when they are hungry or cold. Make sure she is latching and that mama dog has milk. Also open the puppies mouth and make sure the roof of the mouth looks normal- and no cleft palate. You may need to go buy puppy milk replacer and bottles. Excessive crying can be a sign of a health issue, so I would have him seen by a vet immediately (take along his mother and siblings as well). Newborn puppies are extremely fragile, and very susceptible to cold and low blood sugar, so any potential problems with them need to be check out by a vet right away to give them their best chance at survival. His crying could signify problems in feeding (not getting enough milk), cold, or low blood sugar. Please take him into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now.

Poor Mojo! He could be crying because he is hungry or cold, but without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. I can say that newborn puppies are extremely fragile, and whenever there is problems with them, they have to see a vet immediately in order for them to have the best chance of survival. I would take Mojo into a vet right away for medical treatment.

Thanks for using PetCoach. Your little guy needs very frequent feeding (every 2 hours) and is also likely looking for a warm body to snuggle up against. Also don't forget to stimulate him to defecate and urinate before and after every feeding. These pups will need to be given supplemental heat through a heating pad. They will also need to be bottle fed with a milk replacement supplement. Everything you need should be able available to you through most pet stores or big-box stores. Newborn puppies will require bottle feeding up to every 2-3 hours for the first week or so of their life if they make it. Sometimes, the mother will reject the puppies if she senses they are sick in some way as well.
