Will rehoming my shy, attached dog cause her trauma or stress?

If you're not ready for a puppy, then you're right that the best thing for Mimi is to find her another home. It is going to be much easier for her to get attached to another person quickly at this early age than it will be later. We often describe that dogs live in the moment. So, while Mimi may miss you for a short period of time, she will quickly learn to love and be attached to her new owner. Dogs are very adaptable but it’s hard to keep adjusting to a new person and a new house. Dogs like stability. They want to bond with their human. They like a routine and changing households will disrupt all of that and begin the process over again. It is best to place the puppy in a forever home where he will stay but a few changes and bumps along the way are generally OK. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi, I think if you find someone that looks after her well and loves perhaps it would be less traumatic for her to stay in the Caribbean. I am pro travelling with pets but I think Lucy suffered a lot and it’s a long journey and stay in kennel. Good luck with whatever you choose.

This can certainly be a confusing situation for Pepper, which may explain why he was confused when he returned the last time. If Pepper is going to a bad environment, I would try and talk this over with his previous owner and ensure him that Pepper is much better off in the environment he has been in the longest. Unfortunately, if he gave you temporary care of his dog, technically Pepper still is his dog. You could also ask the man if you could adopt Pepper from him and pay him an "adoption fee" and make it so that if you adopt Pepper, he no longer has ownership and is no longer allowed to take Pepper for visitation. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Panda. If you do not have a friend or family member that can care for her, then I would consider finding a rescue group to rehome her. There are many available in most regions of the country. They should work on her anxiety issues and help to find her an ideal home. They will typically put an effort into her behavioral issues than a shelter can. I hope this information helps!

Hello! If often takes some time for a pet to adjust to their brand new home and family. Most dogs need a few weeks to become confident and comfortable in their new environment. It would be helpful to know exactly what she is doing that is causing you to be concerned though. The best thing to do is to give her a lot of TLC. I would try to keep things quiet for a little while in the home. I would not force her into any uncomfortable situations like a lot of visitors. I would make sure you give her treats for positive behaviors like going outside or coming to you when called. She will learn that you are her new “person” before long but just be patient with her.
