My 8-week-old puppy won't eat. Can I add coconut milk to their food?

Congrats on your new puppy, Honey is very cute! No, it is not right to feed her milk, especially cow's milk. Dairy productions should never be fed to dogs due to GI upset, and milk alone is not a balanced diet for a puppy. It will not be providing her with the nutrients she needs to grow properly. Puppies need higher amounts of protein, calories, and calcium than adult dogs, and a puppy formulated food will give that to her. It may be that she isn't used to puppy food yet, and I can give you a method to try to get her used to puppy food. To help her get used to puppy food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until she is eating the dry puppy food only.

I can certainly understand being concerned about your puppy not eating enough. It's really not the best for for your puppy, as it's not formulated to meet her nutritional needs. It's not something that is recommended to give to a puppy on a regular basis, usually only when the animal is sick. In addition, there may be ingredients in the baby food that is not safe for her to ingest. Yes you can. Although after 4-5 weeks most puppy's cannot absorb the milk as readily and this can lead to loose stool or diarrhea. Why not try wet canned puppy food instead? This will ensure no loose stool forms.

It is best to give Fido a formula specific for dogs as giving regular cow's milk can cause diarrhea and dehydration. Most pet stores will carry formulas such as KMR for puppies along with feeding instructions on them.

She does not need milk supplement at that age. I would continue to feed the puppy food she is used to for several weeks. When she’s settled in you can then switch her if you prefer another food. Personally I use Purina dog foods. I start with puppy, go to adult when grown, senior food when old, and the special foods as needed if she develops a medical problem that using a special diet will help. Discontinue feeding the curd. Dairy products or cow milk may cause gastrointestinal upset in dogs and puppies. Mix the puppy milk replacer with a good quality puppy food to make a slurry or gruel. Serve it warm or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate his appetite. Gradually decrease the amount of liquid until Scooby is eating only puppy food by 8-10 weeks of age.
