Should my 8-week-old puppy eat puppy food or milk supplement?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 3 weeks is young. I’d recommend a puppy milk replacer and bottle feeding for another week or 2. Then mix the puppy milk replacer in with canned puppy food and gradually add dry food over a couple of weeks. I like Purina proplan orhl’s puppy foods. Good luck!

They do tend to want to nurse even if they have been weaned off milk, so I wouldn't worry too much about this. The puppy food should be sufficient, but If she is eating less than the daily recommended amount (as seen on the bag of food), then you can supplement milk replacer. You would have to buy a special dog milk replacer at the pet store, because the regular cow's milk is different. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Bone is SUPER cute!! I do not recommend calcium supplementation. Once Bone is 5-6 weeks old start feeding him a commercial puppy food, like Purina puppy chow. If you are bottle feeding him with a puppy formula you can start mixing that with puppy food now. All commercial puppy foods are nutritionally balance. Over supplementing calcium can cause harm. I hope this helps!

A pug that is younger than 6 months should eat a puppy diet to help her grow and get the adequate nutrients and vitamins she needs. Puppies and adult dogs have very different requirements in terms of calories, calcium, phosphorous, and other nutrients. As she gets older, ie in the 6-12 month range, it is OK to start mixing in an adult or all-life stages diet in with her food. Just be sure the total amount she is supposed to be eating based on what the bag says is appropriate. Eventually, once she is about 12 months, she should be on an adult dog food, for maintenance. I recommend consulting with Beanie's regular veterinarian to see what specific types of food they recommend for her! Top dog food brands include Purina, Hills Science Diet, and Royal Canin. Beanie should NOT eat a grain-free, vegetarian, or vegan diet, as these are linked with dangerous heart conditions and other growth related diseases. I hope this is helpful!

I personally prefer the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends for puppies as they are generally inexpensive, are of great quality and dogs seems to love it. For the amount to feed her, I advice you follow the guidelines that you will find in the back of the bag. Keep in mind that you should get the puppy blend. Also, keep in mind that as she grows, you will notice in the back of the bag that it will advice you feed her more. When she becomes a year old, she should be switched to an adult diet. I wouldn't recommend either. Once puppies are weaned off of their mother they do not need milk anymore. I would recommend just a high quality puppy food at this point. You can do either wet or dry. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

I would actually recommend weaning Tobi onto a puppy wet food. he is old enough to do a transition to puppy food. If you do this then you do not need to add in supplements. We typically do not recommend cows milk or cerelac for dogs. If you wanted to still give a type of milk then you can do a puppy milk replacer but again he is old enough to wean off of this.
