My 1-month-old female puppy won't drink milk replacer. Is she okay?

It sounds like you are doing a great job with Luna so far! I would first make sure that she has pooped today. If she has not this can lead to an ‘overfull’ feeling and make her not want to eat. If she has pooped and is still refusing food for more than 24 hours then I would recommend taking her in to be examined by your veterinarian to ensure nothing is wrong. I hope this helps. At 4 weeks of age it is normal for a puppy to only be drinking milk. Ideally your puppy should still be nursing from his mother at this age. If he is already away from his mother then you will need to continue feeding him puppy milk replacer until about 6 weeks of age. You can try to leave some moistened kibble with him to get him interested in it but at this age he should be still getting most of his nutrition from milk. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While not ideal, this can be ok as long as she is fed a milk replacer formula until she is about 6 to 8 weeks when she starts eating kibble or canned food. They usually can do ok by themselves. Good luck and have a great day!

Three or four weeks is way too young for a puppy to be separated from its mother! A puppy should not leave it's mother until it's at least eight weeks of age. Canned puppy food has a high moisture content, so Princess will be getting water from eating that food, but I recommend adding water to the canned food to get more water into her system. You can also try mixing the replacement milk in with her canned food. She likely wasn't fully weaned from her mother, and that may be contributing to her not drinking water from a bowl. He may be too young still so I would continue to hand feed him for now for at least 2 more weeks but I recommend that you leave the bowls available to him so that he can let you know when he is ready to make the transition. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Maggies is very cute! I think that 4 weeks is too young to be taken from the mother and siblings. At this stage I would mix puppy formula with canned puppy food. If she won't eat that then you can mix the cerelac in with the canned puppy food but I personally do not like animals eating human dairy foods. Gradually over the next week or so add less and less puppy formula and more canned puppy food. Then around 5-6 weeks add moistened dry food. Hopefully by 7 weeks she will be eating all canned or dry puppy food. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 3 weeks is young. I’d recommend a puppy milk replacer and bottle feeding for another week or 2. Then mix the puppy milk replacer in with canned puppy food and gradually add dry food over a couple of weeks. I like Purina proplan orhl’s puppy foods. Good luck!
