How do I get my puppy to stop waking up in the middle of the night?

Tyson is very young still so it may be that he is waking you up because he needs to go outside and go potty. You may need to make a routine of taking him out once or twice at night until he is older and can hold it the entire night. If he's just restless, a good play session followed by a potty break right before bed can help tire him out enough to sleep through the night.

At this age, if Mila wakes you up by whining in the middle of the night, I would take her outside for a potty break - she's too young to be expected to "hold it" successfully all night. Once she potties, bring her back inside and calmly put her back to bed. If needed, you can give her something like a Kong toy stuffed with peanut butter to keep her busy and help her settle again. As she gets older, she will eventually stop needing to go out during the night and will begin to sleep all night without waking up - just like a human baby :)

If he is asleep, let him sleep but take him out immediately after he wakes up to go. He should also go out with in 30 minutes of eating and drinking. If you notice him stop playing and start circling, then this is an indication he is about to go. Your time frame is good for waking hours, but through the night, you may have to let him out once until he gets a little bigger to hold it through the night.

Hello, and congratulations on your new puppy! I am assuming you have started potty training Max to go outdoors, not indoors on a pee pad? A puppy at 4 months should be able to hold his bladder about 4-5 hours overnight. This means that if you want him to go potty at 7am, you'll need to take him out for a pee around 2-3am. The good news is that over the next few months as he grows older, Max should be able to hold his bladder longer and longer, until he will be able to hold it for at least 8 hours overnight. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While it may seem too simple, the best way to resolve this issue is by ignoring her when she tries to play at those times. Eventually she will learn that it is not ok to do that and will stop waking up at that time to do it. Keep in mind though that she is a puppy and is behaving like a puppy would be expected to. It may just be from him being a puppy but I recommend getting a urinalysis performed to rule out urinary tract infection. If he has an infection your vet can treat with antibiotics. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Hello. Crate training takes time, so keep persevering. That being said, expect dogs to be able to hold their bladders the number of months they are in terms of hours, as a general rule. They can hold it a little longer at night. Expect to have to wake up in the middle of the night to let him outside. Bring him outside, let him pee, then right back inside into the crate. No playing or else he will get used to that. The whining and barking should subside soon. HAve fun with him!
