Why does my 5-month-old puppy wake up barking every night at 2 AM?

This is not unusual behavior. Most puppies will outgrow this behavior but it will take time. Try to make the crate a positive place. Feed him in the crate only. Hide treats in the crate that he can discover. About 30 minutes before bed, play with him to make him more tired. Most pets will eventually come to like their crate and think of it as their own room but this generally will take a few weeks. Hang in there and best of luck.

It could be that bella has realized if she barks she gets attention from you all. She is barking to get taken outside or even just attention through the night. I would recommend trying to crate train her. This will allow her an area that is safe and only hers. The crate can be a really positive place . You can start off by putting her in it for short intervals and rewarding her going in and coming out. it is important to make the crate a happy place. You could also try just moving her to another room so she is not sleeping with you all.

There could be a few different things causing this. If he's a puppy, he may need to go to the bathroom -- take him out and but don't give him attention or play time. If he's an adult, it could be pain, habit, a medical issue causing him to need to get up to go to the bathroom, or accidentally reinforcing this behavior previously with play (or even by yelling at him - if he wants to interact he doesn't really care if you're happy or unhappy during the interaction). If he's elderly, he could be starting to have dementia (canine cognitive dysfunction) or any of the adult issues. So, if he's a puppy, I recommend the above, but if he's not a pup, I'd recommend starting with a vet visit and then ignoring him at night if nothing is wrong. Good luck!

If you keep getting her out at that time she will get used to that. Ideally you should build her back up to the later time. make her stay there a little longer each day until 6-630. At 4 months old, it is not unreasonable to expect her to not go to the bathroom from 10-6. If you are consistent, she will begin to understand that routine and stay quiet.

Increase his activity during the day, if possible, to tire him out. Use a cover on his crate to block light. Let him out to use the bathroom just before bedtime. Try a pheromone product such as the Adaptil collar or DAP plug in diffuser. This may decrease any anxiety he may have at night.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While it may seem too simple, the best way to resolve this issue is by ignoring her when she tries to play at those times. Eventually she will learn that it is not ok to do that and will stop waking up at that time to do it. Keep in mind though that she is a puppy and is behaving like a puppy would be expected to. I see that Rhea is still very young, only about 6 months old. I'm also not sure from your description if she is barking because she needs to go out and potty, or because she is anxious and lonely in her kennel. If she is needing to potty this often at night, I would be concerned that she may have a medical problem such as a UTI causing this - in that case, it would be best to take her to the vet to have this checked. If she doesn't need to potty but is just restless and upset in her kennel, I would first make sure that her kennel is in your bedroom - right next to your bed, if possible. It's not natural for puppies to be all alone at night, so many pups will cry if they are isolated in a separate room from their owners. Normally, moving her so that she is nearby resolves the problem - you can talk softly to her to reassure her if she wakes up and gets scared during the night.
